I have taken the trim ring/boot assy loose a few times and of course the trim ring separated from the boot. The little pins broke, even though I was trying to be easy with it. I found a nice little fix. I use Shoe Goo to reassemble the trim ring back to the boot.
Just put some dots of the glue on the old points of contact that are broke and clamp it together for a little while. It holds well. Another bonus is you can get it apart again without being destructive to the parts. To reglue it, just peel off the old glue and redo it. The wife’s hair bands worked great for holding things together to dry.
