Shelby Releases a 750-Horsepower Terlingua Mustang

Jan 26, 2016

In 2007, Shelby revealed the first-ever Terlingua Mustang, which it named after a town near a ranch that the legendary Carroll Shelby owned. This Mustang came with Ford’s lackluster 4.0-liter V-6 that, in its stock form, produced a wheezy 210 horses. Once the folks at Shelby added in a Paxton supercharger and a Borla side exhaust, this V-6 showed some life at 375 horsepower. Now, 11 year later, Shelby is once again using the famed nameplate, but this new Terlingua Mustang is packing two more cylinders than its predecessor.

This new Shelby Terlingua makes use of the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V-8 fitted with a Whipple supercharger. This blower and the included Borla exhaust takes the V-8 from its standard 435 horsepower to a Hellcat-trumping 750 horses. Shelby didn’t toss out a torque number, but it’ll be well in excess of the standard V-8’s 400 pound-feet. Helping handle the power effectively are Ford Performance half-shafts and short-throw shifter.

At the corners, Shelby complements the power boost with a Brembo Big Brake kit that features six-piston calipers up front and four-piston grabbers out back all tucked behind 20-inch WELD Racing wheels. Rounding out the suspension mods is an Eibach adjustable suspension and upgraded camber and caster plates.

Of course, the Shelby Terlingua wouldn’t be complete without plenty of upgrades to the body and interior. On the body, this `Stang earns plenty of carbon-fiber bits, including a front splitter, a Terlingua hood with vents, brake ducts, mirror caps, rocker panels, a rear spoiler, a taillight panel, and a rear diffuser. Also included are Terlingua upper and lower grilles, and badging.

The interior features a plaque signed by Carroll Shelby, Bill Neale and Jerry Titus, a numbered dash plaque, a custom headrest cover with the Terlingua Racing logo, a carbon-fiber gauge pod, exclusive floor mats, and illuminated Shelby doorsill plates.

On top of what comes standard, Shelby also offers plenty of options to gussy up this exclusive rig. These options include a Barton short-throw shifter, differential and transmission cooling kits, 3.55-to-1 gears, a Wavetrack differential, a supple Katzkin interior package, Sparco seats, and more.

All told, the Shelby Terlingua will run $65,999. That may seem like a steal, but that price doesn’t include the price of the 2015 or 2016 Mustang GT that this kit fits. For that, you’ll have to shell out at least an extra $32,395 for a grand total of $98,394. Only 50 of these model will see production, so get your finances in order and give Shelby American a buzz quickly.

shelby is on crack. who the f would pay 80-90k for a super snake much less this terlingua when you got gt350s (if you can get one) and rs3's cheaper that don't require you to buy a car and send it to them... or better yet build whatever you want yourself and SAVE SO MUCH.

i don't get it or the appeal.

Shelby have enough customers to lap up every one they make.

Good value? Nope. Appealing to Shelby's current customers? Oh yes ;)

Yeah... I really don't like any of the new Shelby Designs. The GT350 just uses the nameplate, wasn't designed by that team. The Shelby GT, Supersnake, and this variant all seem to do the same thing and all are super expensive.

^ I agree, I bet I could spec out that car basically the same for about 30-40K cheaper.

Honestly the Super Snake and this car just feel like a lazy cash grab. They basically take every aftermarket part and bolt it on the car and sell it to you for a markup.

I hope Ford drop the Shelby name from now on. The sound of Ford Performance is much more appealing IMO.

This is slightly better than that "ecoboost GT" they came out with months ago...

I know, you can put gt on anything... but really everyone knows what a gt mustang is... a GT.

The Terlingua Racing symbol is the best part.

But the heritage and tradition is lost...
