I still can't get over how bulky and blockish the '05-'09 look compared to the S550. It made me realize how good the '99-'04 actually look. If I was in the market for a used (which I might be if we upgrade the daily driver), it'd have to be '99-'04 or 2013/14.

Funny you should say that but I was out today and I noticed a lot of 05 to 09 cars and I think over time those will be highly looked upon. They actually have abetter presence on the road than the 2010 to 2014 cars. The 2015 is another huge step forward in styling from Ford.

I agree. I've been noticing more 05-09's and think that Bodystyle is going to hold up better, over time than the 10-14 Refresh, but personally think the 2015 is going to be a Classic

Styling is highly subjective, Im not a mustang fan per say as Im not brand loyal, but I bought my 2013 because it was the only mustang that I have liked since the fox days. The s550 will interest me when and if Ford does a refresh.

I think the S197 in general is going to be a bit of a classic, maybe more so than the S550 because it plays off of so many old school cues that it's by default going to be timeless. Same goes for the Challenger and Camaro...those cars were all designed to basically rebirth the past and play off of the past and more or less be successful as a sure thing right out of the gate due to that. Everything should be a bit more risky this time around with the new designs as far as alienating old fans/attracting new fans/how well designs hold up over the years. Should be interesting to see this unfold, but yeah...the S197 shouldn't really age for quite a while, and even then it should still look great.

I know the dimensions aren't drastically different from the S197, but I guess the S550 does appear sleeker. Gives me a new appreciation for the New Edge Mustangs. Now the S197 looks too big to me (which doesn't bode well for the likes of Camaro and Challenger).

You're probably right, the S197s will be major classics (especially 11-14) because as cars will get smaller, we'll pine for the days of big muscle cars once again. But will the safe styling of the 05-09 hold up in 50 years?

Personally, I think the 05-09 are really outdated looking. They look really boxy and too square to me.

Yeah, I used to own a 2006 and the just the difference between the '06 and 2010 is striking. The hips are wider, the belt line crease gives it a more muscular shape, the grilles weren't as wide (the fog lights in the GT were most striking), and the rear ends were flat.

Now, saying all of that, it's still a great looking Mustang, don't get me wrong...but I guess it's striking to see the radical difference between the S550 and the S197. To me, the S550 has more in common with the New Edge than it does the early S197s.

Yep, the S550 imo is more similar primarily to sn/95/new edge with some S197 cues.

you're kidding right, you are aware that those cars are mostly 10 yrs old. You could easily surmise that a 90's model looks outdated, or the beloved 60's

Just not a "smart" observation. IMO of course.

One day the 15' will be outdated, then what.

Don't be the kid with a new toy, there's always new toys.

The simple fact is that some model years are timeless and others are dated...they can't all be winners. Some look dated leaving the factory.

interesting, I've never seen that with the mustang. But I'm sure everyone can agree the 05-09 is a clear winner.

It alone started a revolution in the car industry. Most likely responsible for the camaro and chally, due to sales.
While I love the S550 and plan on getting it, I don't see it having the success of the 05-09 in sales.

Good design and bad design is not completely subjective. If it was there would be no art, no critics, and no winners and losers. Yes the 05 to 09s look old but they also are clean balanced and aggressive. Looking back now there were improvements in the car from 2010 to 2014 but I don't think the design will hold up as well over time as the 05/09's will.

I really like the 2015 design and already think it looks far better than the leaked pictures of the GT350 where the front looks screwed up like it doesn't really belong on that body.

You will always have some people who like some cars but generally there is a consensus about which years were the nicest, design wise, which weren't always the best performance wise.
