I think it was less than 2 months for those cheap headlight and foglight switches came off in my hand; much preferred my 85s dashboard setup. But it was a RAW Overwelming car obviously as I later slammed the rear qtr into a bunch of mailboxes and couldn't get the hell outta there. The fuelpump shut-off kicked in and it wouldn't start, just cranked w/nofuel! Damn embarrassing, I did get better later with the 'rear-wheel' steering though!!!

I spun and completely destroyed my first Fox on our 401 highway which is this fourteen lane freeway. Spun it out in the drizzle on the craptastic Goodyear Gatorbacks. Hit the guardrail twice at both ends (car looked like a banana). Climbed out the window like a race car driver and all traffic on both sides had stopped with everyone’s mouth open! When it occurred to them I was ok they all took off like a bat out of hell. :giggle:

A driving instructor stopped to pick me up which was the funniest part. Fox 2 got Pirelli snow tires in summer and lasted 18 years. BTW: A lot of good drivers lost their lives needlessly because of those crazy tires. But that’s another conversation.

Oh: Old fart knowledge base for the kids - The reason the driving instructor had to pick me up was to take me to a phone booth to call police, tow and insurance. A phone booth was this narrow glass enclosure where an old style phone was. You paid a dime and later a quarter per call.

I don't miss the Playschool plastic, actually Playschool wouldve been more durable. Oh and that 3rd gear shift miss when racing, or the screws holding the door switches, or the multiple dashboard panels creeking, or that pathetic steering wheel, or.......no, the S550 is an Overwelmingly amazing!

Ouch, glad you were ok! I had my backend try to come around on me going over a bridge, I was like wtf, then I realized the cruise control was trying to maintain speed on an ice covered bridge! Oh
those Overwelming tires, just a dusting of snow and the GT couldn't move forward at all, even on flat surfaces!

BTW: The spinout made me a better driver and I firmly believe you can’t drive at the limit unless you exceed the limit. Hopefully you don’t total the car and spin it out in the grass off the track. Spin and win so to speak. But I really believe testing the edge and failing takes you that quantum leap into real driving. Sort of conquering fears that limit lesser drivers if you know what I mean...

BTW: I don’t want anyone taking what I said above as a reason to test the limits of their cars on the streets. I just note it that when it happens on a busy street, unexpected, totally hairy situation, it makes you a better driver. In my smash up it was the tires and I changed them and exceeded the limits countless times afterward but never lost control again. Even in a track situation you are with other learned drivers and a controlled situation. Some F1 drivers are totally spooked going out on the roads in some countries because they don’t trust the drivers like in a race. So the school of hard knocks driving course is not recommended but if you unfortunately have an episode I can guarantee you will be a better and safer driver as long as you weren’t under the influence.

Well OK. Back to the thread topic. If I had to downsize to one Mustang, (after thinking about it for a day) I would keep the S550.
And keep fond memories of the '07 GT.

I owned 3 different S197 Mustang GT's all bought new. I had an 11 Gt with A6 and a 13 track pack GT with M6 and a 13 GT A6. I now own a 2018 PP GT with A10. Personally I like the S197 cars better from a styling standpoint as well as the solid rear axle but I do like the drivetrain in the 2018 a lot. if I had a more understanding wife i'd have a 2013 GHIG GT with a transplanted 2018 engine and A10 transmission.

Heh.

Reminds me of a similar truck my folks had when I reached driving age - a green '71 Dodge 3/4 ton with a 360, no power steering, no power brakes, 4-speed with the granny first. Quite the learning experience as a young punk, especially parallel parking that beast. At least it had seat belts, lol.
It's funny - I had to replace the single reservoir master cylinder and front drum brakes with a dual reservoir and front discs immediately when I bought it. Because I'm safety conscious. But I didn't install seat belts. Not sure what I was thinking.
