Hey guys, after a minor fender bender a few weeks back I was struggling to get the hood open. Finally did, and then couldn’t get it to shut. Finally, I was able to get it to shut but now I believe it is jammed and the actual latch to engage the safety is no where in sight. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for next steps?

Man, that sucks. It doesn't look like much damage but with the cost of parts/labor the money meter will be running strong. Did you file a claim already?

Right.. I did file a claim that’s another long story. Considering just breaking the hood open and replacing it with an aftermarket cowl hood or something

I kind of doubt that a different hood would fix the problem. There are obviously other body parts that are out of position causing the binding.
Were it mine I'd take it to a body shop and ask for their help. It's what they do everyday after all. Whatever they might charge you will likely be less than a new hood. If you have them estimate the repair they may even credit any fees towards the repair.
As frustrated as you are, try not to make rash choices that could make things worse/more expensive down the line.

That looks completely repairable. Get it to a good shop. It’ll be good as new.

I would leave it alone. Labor alone may be the answer and no parts needed unless you start prying things apart.
