I'm going to be completely honest, a fender or hood shot is not going clear anything up. The S550 has to be seen in it's entirety to be reaally appreciated. The only exceptions are the rear, front fascia... The two highlights of the new car (so I am told). Interior could be the last thing we see too... also a big concern.

The S550 is going to be marketed as a very usable and livable entry level sports coupe/car, I want to see the space increases even though the car is smaller...
I disagree with you, but only partially. I don't think anyone (realistically, we all wanted to see this thing yesterday) expects Ford to be dropping press photos of the car 100% in our laps today. But, if you look at all we've seen at this point, we have practically NO idea what the car is going to look like. The padded up mule, if anything, has only confused the issue further.

I would go out and say that a fender shot, or hood shot, or a wheel shot would help us continue a discussion that is fast growing stale. We can only speculate on the same things for so long until it gets to the point of ad nauseum.

I don even care if a hood or fender shot clears anything up. Even tho i know it's all a game it's still fun in a twisted way to be fooled but we can only speculate on what they show us and so far it ain't much.

It's still a shock and awe program though.. The people working on the Mustang recently have used this approach effectively. The misdirection could be just the team having fun OR, a super strict marketing plan.

Would it be insane to wait for Chevy to release that Z28 before they drop a new contender the next day? Think about the competition too... the marketing plan must be heavily based on that.

Edit: If you don't think Ford Racing is holding the GT350 even closer to the chest, you would be mistaken. Ford want's to trump the Z28 for $20,000 less with a fully functional and legal Ford Racing turn key race car.

I will agree with you on it being a shock and awe style we have going on here, and it has been used effectively, but they are working with a double edged sword here. I think the silence is truly telling us they have something they think is truly special, and as long as the public views it as such this drawn out very slow release of information will be fine, but if it's underwhelming people are going to be pissed. "I waited all this time for THIS?"

We know about as much about a GT350 as we do a unicorn. Honestly we don't even know that's what it's going to be called. All I can really say is I hope that Ford truly does have a car waiting for us that we aren't going to believe.

Someone say stripper show?? :D

As usual, order banks will close for good on the s197 in the Fall (Sept/Oct) right? Well, then I would also expect Ford start with some crazy promotion and teasing as soon as that happens. So... a stripper sighting around Thanksgiving wouldn't come as a surprise to me. I just hope it's even earlier :hail:

Seeing as there is a delay to next May for production, if the order banks close Sept/Oct, I'm guessing they expect a big slowdown in sales or they are building up a large volume of cars to cover that long time frame?

I dont think it's a shock an awe program really. I think there's basically 2 ways car companies can deal with a big reveal like this.

Either let the media and enthusiasts do their usual thang and snap up pics, leaks and other info while Ford themselves don't show any teasers and say nothing official.......

OR you can do what I think Ford is planning which is a total lock down of all info/leaks bcuz you plan to release a lot of official teasers and events. That's the only explaination that makes sense to me. Ford is hopefully planning a bunch of photo/videos teases, events, and controlled leaks and dont want anyone to ruin that surprise before they do.

No, no... It will shock and awe on a massive scale. The magazine's are out... Ford has 5.24 Miliion Ford Mustang Facebook fans across the world. That's their market, not the 30,000 magazines that are read each month or the blog that gets 2000 hits. In this new era, magazines are far less widespread and very corruptible.

Ford already owns a mass media outlet that's FREE for them to use. I don't expect a single magazine is being favored until Ford themselves uses their free and massively popular outlet. Magazine articles just invite ringer cars, pro drivers, bias, advertisement's other than Ford's and as we can see... a lot of publishers are willing to degrade their credibility with "rumor wars" that are mostly incorrect.

Would you be willing to trust your brand new product in the hands of said people? I would rather utilize the 5.24 million fans that have 100-500 friends each. Your talking an advertisement with the size of viewers a Superbowl ad gets maybe even greater. They care little or nothing about magazines at this point, all they can do now is ruin their Facebook launch to the 5.24m subscribers worldwide.

This is why Jim Farley is so important in the S550 program. His method of advertisement is highly anti-Chevy and will stop at nothing to undermine everything they do. Mass advertising is easy if the product rocks and he won't have any issues advertising the S550. Farley may be Social Media king but, he is just as attached to the Mustang as May's and Hameedi. The mastermind behind the '13 media that literally erased the ZL1 from media memory.

Perspective: The last time Ford launched a new platform Facebook and Twitter did not exist. Now they have over 5.5M likes on their Mustang FB page and 250K twitter followers. Almost everyone who can afford to by a new Mustang owns a smartphone. They can move slower now and still get the word out much faster with social media.

It's not gonna take much to get this hype machine rolling once they decide to hit the Start button.

Where you get that info from?

Ford alreayd offering incentives on the 14, gotta be clearing it out for something. Its the summertime and sales are pretty good. I cant think of any other reason to start it so early.

A little anecdote: I saw Jim Farley at the HAWK vintage races at Road America this past weekend. He was just walking around in jeans and tshirt like a normal dude and nobody realized who he was. He walked right past me and the only reason I knew was because a mutual friend introduced me to him last year. Very cool guy. He told us the story about sneaking behind his parent back to get a shot-rod 65 mustang when he was 14 and I told him about my first car, a 82 capri 5.0. He also talked about growing up with Chris as well as his cobras. I also asked him why we cant get an AWD Focus and he said it is simply too expensive to adapt the platform.
I was really hoping to get a proper opportunity to talk to him this year and have him tell me how bad I'm going to want a S550, but no such luck. I didnt feel it was appropriate to just walk up to the guy while he's watching the races and start asking questions as I'm sure he probably wouldnt have remembered me.

But yeah, as usual I suspect you are on point.
