Hey all,

Noticed these spots while hand-washing over the weekend. This sure looks like rust to me. This is the driver side, right below the gas cap. No idea how this could have happened in this particular area - no chips in this area to my knowledge and this area has never been damaged in my ownership. It never even showed any damage at all, really.

I am thinking this needs to be professionally addressed before it spreads. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am not touching this in a DIY role - this will go to a shop. And if anyone has any recs in FL (Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota type areas) for a body shop I'm all ears.

I'd open the trunk, pull-back or remove the felt panels and take a look at the other side of that panel.

I haven't noticed someone with a spot in that area. But ya, confirm if this is the result of a leak (or not).

That's a good idea. I had not thought of that.

Is this Lightening Blue? I thought most of the issues were just 2017’s but it is possible it bled over to other years.

Idk what ford did, but there’s something wrong with how they applied it. For mustangs it chips and peels off the rear quarters pretty bad.

It is indeed Lightning Blue . . . This is a 2018 car

Do you have the build date? Like my 2016 was built in August 2015 so depending on yours it could just be terrible prep.

You can look up “Lightning Blue Peeling” and it’s on every ford that had that paint. For the mustangs it came off in sheets.

Yours is in a weird spot compared to how they normally fail but this particular blue has been rough longevity wise

Both of those spots look like they could be paint chip repairs gone awry. Have you owned this car since new?

I have not, but I have never noticed chips there. If my memory is correct that panels was in perfect condition when I purchased. I am the 4th owner.

Interesting. That's definitely not a peeling pattern my car is having anywhere like that thread.

I also noticed that's grabber blue, not lightning blue. But I'll do some digging.

I believe build date was April of 2018, I'll have to check. Been a long time since I looked.
