Correct. The ECU will, adapt and make the necessary adjustments. It may take a little more than 50 miles though. Perhaps you can speed up the process if you drive around in an area that has lots of stop signs that will cause you to have to stop and let the car idle as many times as possible. I think it’s the JLT that caused it. My car never had that issue until I installed my PMAS CAI. I asked my tuner at Lund about it and he said it was caused by turbulent air from the PMAS. No need to worry, just enjoy the car and try not to focus on the idling and before you know it, the car will be idling smoothly again.

I disconnected the battery for a while to reset the PCM. The car is in neutral and it’s holding it at 3000 rpm….. I gave it some gas and then it corrected to the set 650 rpm idol. I’ve only driven it a couple miles after the pcm reset so hopefully this resolves. This is concerning. P0507 And now there’s a check engine light saying idol control system RPM higher than expected. So I am taking this air filter back off and putting it back how it was and I flashed it to stock.

Sounds like you may have a small vacuum leak. Did you double check the hose clamps on you intake tube at the throttle body and mass air meter housing? Also, if you had to transfer your factory mass air flow sensor to your JLT unit, did you remember to remove and reuse the factory rectangular gasket to seal the sensor to the housing?

The gasket stayed with the sensor. So yes we double checked.
i don’t know what happened. We are thinking it was not an appropriate tune bc those codes said it was running lean.

good thing is it’s back to normal now and I’ll just take it to the professional when I have the money and my headers on.

Is your JLT CAI a tune required or no tune required version? If it’s a no tune required, try reinstalling the JLT kit and leaving the factory tune in tact and see how the car runs.

Its a tune required. But when I flashed the car back to stock, it was still revving high just parked in the driveway with the cold air intake on. As soon as we put the stock air box back on it fixed everything. So I think there was an air leak around that mass air flow sensor. We looked at that hole that’s cut out on the side of the intake and it’s not a perfect rectangle, but yes the little rubber gasket around the mass air flow sensor was transferred appropriately. Dad thinks if we were gonna try again he’d put silicone around it to make sure it’s sealed.

I got a quote from Chance Todd at ET motorsports (the Oklahoma dealer for Ortiz Performance). He was highly recommended by the Tulsa mustang forum. He said $850 to put everything on. Headers, intake, throttle body, injectors. And it’s $825 for a dyno tune. He’s been pretty nice to me so far and he seems super professional and legit. I let him know about the intake and he said they’d get it right.

That’s a really great price to have everything installed. I’d roll with it, unless you and your dad are capable of installing everything and you’d like to save that additional $850 for other mods.

Haha! That’s probably a good idea then, because depending on fitment, the LTHs can give you a run for the money. I had to install two different sets on mine because the first set had clearance issues.

I don’t think they’ll be clearance issues with my ford street lowering springs? …. Right? :(

I doubt that you’d have any ground clearance issues, I was speaking more along the lines of maybe the steering linkage making contact with the headers or the headers making contact with the frame rails.

Just thought I’d say I learned something new and interesting about vacuum leaks today. When we put the cold air intake on first time we forgot to use the NEW gaskets (that were in the box lol) that cover your mass air flow sensor. It was causing ā€œidoling surging AKA rev hanging and throwing codes saying running too lean and engine idol control higher than expectedā€. Today we used correct gasket and even a dab of dielectric grease and made sure no air leaks and everything tight and put that big JLT cold air intake back on, tried to start it with stock tune just out of curiosity and it wouldn’t even idol. So I uploaded the tune and runs great. Crazy how even small little air leaks can cause all those problems.

It’s a small but noticeable increase to me at least. It seems faster lol. I can’t imagine once I get all those other bolt ons and an Ortiz tune.

Cool! Glad you got it worked out and can at least enjoy the JLT and Bama tune for now for a slight performance bump. You’ll really love it once you get everything installed and dyno tuned.

Update: FBO now & pockets empty lol

JLT, GT350 TB, 18 intake, 47 lb injectors, Texas Speed (catless) long tubes, Flowmaster X-pipe & cat-back (already installed). $2105 for labor, custom dyno tune 3 tunes (91, Flex, E85), fuel swap, IMRC lockouts, using my SCT device. Bama officially history.

SAE dyno: 414 RWHP (91 gas) @ 5700 RPM; 439 RWHP (E85) @ 6725 RPM.
STD: 455 RWHP (E85)

This may sound aggressive but… if it’s 15% drivetrain loss…. 455 is 535 at the crank. Even 439 is 516 at the crank. Even if it’s only 12% loss… 439 is 499. So safe to say 500 Hp car now!?

Rev limiter 7800, I was advised to shift @ 7500 (good Lord help me)

Shoutout ā€œET Motorsportsā€ local shop in Broken Arrow, OK & ā€œOrtiz Performanceā€ for custom tuning. Overall great experience & recommend.

I know most are familiar with this, but as a new novice, it was literally intoxicating to walk thru a performance shop with mustangs stacked everywhere on top of one another & vettes - some over 1000 Hp.

I’m happy the throttle body worked out.
Hopefully I can get a refund with VMP IMRC harness it was $70, tuner said it’s crap.
I’m not happy that expensive headers rubbed my frame & caused false knock, but they fixed that by creating clearance & denting it slightly with permission. I really hope this doesn’t reoccur later…. But the group seems great to work with. I didn’t know E85 would cause peak power at higher RPM. My father is picking the car up, I told the owner to leave it on E85, I want him to feel the 🌽 power (he had an 03 SVT cobra).

Side note, we put Ford Street lowering springs on in the driveway before, no clearance issues. I can’t tell any difference in handling nor misalignment. Oh well. Shit doesn’t just pop right off like in the video with CJ Pony Parts. Everything is rusty/stuck.

Now… time to save lol šŸ˜‚

@Twall, you’ve done well with your combo. Everything sounds like it went smoothly, except for the header rub. How did the shop dent the primary to gain clearance from the frame rail? How much clearance is there now?
