So now that the 3.5mm jack is gone ... direct USB and Bluetooth are seemingly the only way to go for playing your own MP3s in the car (except CDs, I suppose).
Using the "Bluetooth" method you basically control the music with your phone, which works OK. I don't like Bluetooth though, so... here's the problem:
...with the USB method SYNC 3 basically uses the phone as a hard drive with music, and lets you control the music on the touch screen.
How do you fast forward / rewind through a long track (like a concert recording 2-3 hours long) ??
You can't drag the "position" cursor along on the screen, and you're not controlling it with your phone so you can't do it there...
