How many of you take your car in for service? I personally will change my oil and transmission fluid, brake pads, and anything else that I can before taking to a dealership. Only reason I will go back to a dealer is if engine blows or transmission has an issue. (I keep a log book of all service done by myself)

Zero... as in never. I do all my own work. if there is some unforeseen warranty issue that I can not accomplish because of costs association or such, I will go back to the dealer... but other than that I simply d not trust someone else to work on my cars.

anytime you have to hand the keys over to someone else, there's always a risk.

that's why i try to only use reputable service people whenever i get something done.

for over 10 years, i had a trusted independent bmw mechanic.

after that, ive had a trusted subaru tuning shop do all my installs/maintenance.

unfortunately, now, i don't know of any trusted ford shops, and the next best thing i can do is bring it to the most reputable servicing dealer in the area.
THIS.

I understood the risk when i took my car into the dealer to get the dash replaced. Lo and behold, there was damage. That was the risk i took. But they made it right, and thats all i ask for.

Oh, and i got my service advisor fired for that whole debacle too.

I was passing a Caddy dealership last year. They had driven a new car into a one-car lift bay. Somehow they hadn't lined the car up correctly. When it got up to working level, something happened, the car tipped and slid sideways down between the lift and the concrete wall. They couldn't drop the lift because the car's wheels and axles blocked the lift. I found out later they hooked a couple of chains to the car and had their wrecker truck pull it out. I wonder what they told the owner: "those scratches will buff right out".

What would dealer charge me for Motorcraft full synthetic change in my Ecoboost?

I would do it all myself and have tackled just about everything but body work before, but warranty is something I want to keep, the multipoint inspection and tire rotation with TPMS is nice, and the dealer I bought from, while an hour from home and the trip involves passing 3 other Ford dealers on the way, has always treated me and my family very well. My parents and I personally know the sales manager and I've met the service manager before, and he knows my parents. My fiancée and I have bought two new Fords this year and my parents...god only knows, likely half a dozen in the past decade.
Still not sure what exactly I'll end up doing, but at least I trust my dealer.

Derp! Sorry, just thought that said synthetic blend. D'oh!

Thanks for the response. I assume that is "the works" package plus upcharge for synthetic?

your dealership charges you this? That's not a bad deal at all.

that's around what you pay when you buy the stuff yourself. however, I would rather have the peace of mind that I did it right and do it myself. especially with something as easy as changing oil and a filter. im gonna do my transmission fluid soon too.

It's just simpler for me to take mine in and have my buddy at the dealership change it, they have a lift where I don't

Does transmission fluid really need changed so soon?
no, but changing to synchromax makes a huge difference. I have had a few friends do it and they say it was noticeable difference.
if there is any hope of making the MT-82 smoother, then ill do it. I have the steeda transmission mount bushing in my living room, just need to install it.
