Like you, I once was a GM guy. And like you, I was a GTO guy (except mine was a '68 GTO that I owned for a decade waaaaay back when). Lost the faith with GM when I missed the chance to buy a brand new Buick GN in 1987 (and GNX's were out of my budget). Ended up milling around for a year or so and bought a brand new Mustang. 25 years later and I'm still buying new Mustangs every couple of years. The longest wait for a new Mustang that I ever endured? 12 months to get a new 2003 Mach 1. I absolutely had to have one when they were announced in 2002. I was one of the earliest members at the Mach1Registry.com. It sucked waiting while everyone else was getting their Mach 1's, but I finally got mine and I absolutely loved that car. Driving that Mach 1 daily and drag racing it on weekends made me forget all about the long wait. I've bought 3 new Mustangs since that Mach 1 and can't imagine a driveway without a Mustang. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong!
:ford: - Great post!!!Today as in 9/26 or yesterday as in 9/25?I ordered 5/27.

Don't hate...but I JUST GOT A VIN ASSIGNED. No build date yet, but at least a VIN. I'm to assume this means production will be scheduled?
Really NOT cool by Ford, NOT cool. :(Ordered 5/20 went in same day. GT Prem Foundry wheels Auto...... I got Nothin
Unfortunately that light is hanging out with the blizzards of January. :( But thanks for the words of encouragement.Like you, I once was a GM guy. Yep, I've got to work and it will be a DD. Rain, snow, heat, cold you name it. I just wanted to enjoy it a couple of weeks before winter set in. Now it will just be a daily appliance for its first 3 months. So its new fresh exterior will get subjected to salt and cinder and its Summer tires freezing temps for its break in. I almost don't even want it until March/April at this point. :(And now I see where your and my thoughts on this differ. This will not be a "daily driver" for me. It will be a "My Mustang will beat the shit out of your Camaro" kinda car!...LOL. I ordered this car because I own year "ONE", given to me by my grandfather as a 15th birthday present, so I HAD to have "Year 50" to match her. This car will be a pleasure only (and show off car) for me and the wife. I really did'nt want to have to put it in storage for the winter, before I even get to stretch her legs, but so be it.
Here you go!..Oh my cars been doing that for about a month now. I did hear on site modifications have begun for first run vehicles. Technically a sign of okay to buy just a bit skeptical because no vehicles have shipped.
This was sent to me by a friend who found it on FB.

Okay to buy doesn't mean cars are clear to ship. It only means that retail orders can finally be scheduled. Okay to ship only happens after QA is complete. Two different steps in the process, amigo.
Thanks, guys, for your insights.Oh my cars been doing that for about a month now. I did hear on site modifications have begun for first run vehicles. Technically a sign of okay to buy just a bit skeptical because no vehicles have shipped.
Tony thank you for the words of encouragement. So far my dealer has been forthright and very helpful. I haven't heard anything back yet today, I'm trying not to be too pushy so I haven't emailed back today. I live in far southern Illinois. Michigan is a long haul from me. If we would have had dealer members from St.Louis or Indianapolis on the board I would have went through them. The more I have to wait and the more people that get VINs and build weeks that order FAR after me the more dejected I feel. It just isn't right is all I can say about it. But again thanks for the pick me up. I'm not going to quit yet but if I can't be scheduled by next week that may be the straw that breaks the camels back. :shrug:Thanks, guys, for your insights.
Free Agent, here is the scenario I am sitting with currently. I think you know I got a VIN a few weeks after the order banks opened because my dealership was nice enough to change from retail to stock. I then had a production date jump ahead for me from Sept. 15 to back to Sept 5. This unit came off the line on Sept. 9. Obviously, it is one of the first run dealer stock so it should be coming soon, right?
Maybe not - depending on whether or not that car has to be reworked, which since it was among the early ones, it could very well be. So if your order gets scheduled within the next week or so, and gets built by the end of October or early November, conceivably you and I could be getting our cars with not too much difference in timing between them. Some folks have posted up today they've just recently gotten their VINs, production dates, and estimated ship dates that will fall all within October.
We just waited at different parts in the process. So even "gaming the system" as it were didn't do much in terms of the ultimate outcome. Heck, if there is re-working going on right now on the stock unit that is optioned to my specs, it might be weeks before I even get a shipment date.
I would never presume to tell anyone what to do about their purchase decision. However, in my opinion, if you've invested this much emotionally in acquiring this car, you are much closer to seeing an end result than it might seem.
I presume your dealership has been forthcoming about their allocation situation. If not, have your considered buying from a Detroit-based dealership, where allocations and X-plan sales are likely more plentiful? I am not sure where you are located in Illinois, but that has always been my back-up option for getting this car. You've got FiveLiterDreamer sitting right Ford's home city as a great resource. If not, there are other dealers in that area with which I am familiar from people I know in the Detroit area (Ford employees and auto enthusiasts both).
I hope you hang in there. I know it sucks. I actually drooped a bit seeing all the excitement going on with VINs and sooner production dates. I put in my order on 5/20 at 10:00am in the morning. It's now September 26, 2:12pm, and my car is still stuck in a lot, soon to maybe be repaired in some way. Actually, if I count going back to December 5, when I vowed to get the car, I've been waiting over 9 months now. It's a long time, but everything we've seen, on balance, says this will be an excellent driving experience. I keep re-upping daily because when I am driving it in the future, I'll feel more excitement than any distress I am undergoing now.
I've even come to the conclusion that if something were to happen with the car that is hopefully coming and it could not be sold, I'd place another order and get one, even if it meant winter. Mine will be driven in the snow too. That's the beauty of the daily driver. You get to experience the joy of driving every day - every day is Disney World.
Good luck, man. Hang in there.
PS - Five Oh Brian is right about the Mach 1. I similarly remember waiting months and months before they came out. I got one off the lot earlier in the cycle, but it was killer waiting for 8 or 9 months just the same.
From my point of view it is FAR worse to know the car isn't even in existence and frankly is at the whim of Ford to even be scheduled. I'd trade places with you in a HEARTBEAT. I mean that 100% truthfully even knowing some may be undergoing fixes. Wanna trade positions? ;)^ what Tony said. I'm not sure what's worse, waiting forever for your car to get built or knowing that it is & can't have it cause it's sitting in some lot collecting dust with no foreseeable ETA.
I've got a number of Mustang enthusiast buddies in Indy who I would trust to refer you to a dealer. Say the word if you want me to reach out to them.If we would have had dealer members from St.Louis or Indianapolis on the board I would have went through them.
Maybe next week would be time to shop around for another dealer. Other than the timeline you have in your mind about when you might get your car if it doesn't schedule then, what is crucial about next week?I'm not going to quit yet but if I can't be scheduled by next week that may be the straw that breaks the camels back.
