Headers and magnaflow axle backs only are limit for the poping sound when downshifting and compression. You don't want to remove the resonator it really smooths the sound. At least replace it with a long high flow/performance one, but it's still going to be hard to find the right sound.

IMO leave it because I'm in a v6 mustang group and all the 11-14 guys are adding resonaters to tame down the popping. I know a guy with the same setup as mine (shorties and roush ab) on a 14 and it sounds like crap compared to mine

Bottom line question... Has anyone replaced the suitcase (and kept stock manifolds and Cats, unlike Zack ;)) with the 12" long Magnaflow X-pipe/resonator combo (11365) or some combo of H or X-pipe plus bullet style resonators to not lose much if any of the low sound of the suitcase? I feel I need to do something to change my low resonance drone's sound wave. To get a longer/ bigger Magnaflow Tru-X dual in/out you have to go to 2 1/2" in/outlet. 12468 is 18" long & 5x8" oval. 12568 is 22" long & 5x11" oval.

I just saw a 2013-14 V6 (no 5.0 badges or GT on back anyway) in a parking lot. It had an X-pipe where our suitcase res. is. His exhaust 'appeared' to be stock, but the someone might have done a stellar weld job on it.

For some reason that still baffles me, my V6 is the only one of four with Maganaflow 11385 mufflers (4x9" oval x 11" long, straight thru) that got drone (and bad). I have heard and believed 'don't remove our suitcase res.' but now having changed to the quieter 14" MF longer version (11225) of the same muffler, drone is a lot less but still more than I care to live with long term. I am starting to think I need to find a way to CHANGE the resonant frequency somehow not just try to muffle it at the very end of the system. A few different exhaust people, Flowmaster tech included, said that better deep sounding exhaust systems have their mufflers in the middle of the system, or at least not at the very end. The FM guy suggested an H-Pipe (said X is too raspy) with 12" resonators something like their 12412409 (4x5 x 12" long and $110 each! ouch)

Has anyone seen pics of a cut open 2015 suitcase resonator to see what degree of crossover flow gets shared between the banks? The Flowmaster tech I spoke to believed the OEM res in effect had crossover, so adding an H-pipe in front of it would be redundant. I am grasping at straws for anything to change my low frequency drone. :(

EDIT:
Interesting video of high and low flow thru a X, H and modified X pipe as well as some discussion.

I'd love to here opinions here of H vs. X pipes for the V6. I am personally just looking for good sound at normal rpm's. X seems to have the advantage of greater flow at WOT, but I spend very little time there, so I'll easily trade better HP at 6500 rpm's for better low end sound.

Summit Racing explantion of of X & H applications.

EDIT #2, 6/28/15: The internal volume (size) of the OEM suitcase (assuming the body measures 8.5 x. 3.5" x 21"L is ≈ 625 cu".
The MF 11385 is about 396 cu", so about 37% less size. But internals are not likely apples to apples.

I spoke to a Magnaflow tech today. He thought the Tru-X res 11385 (or similar) would make my drone louder not quieter. He suggested adding baffles to pipes behind resonator to change the tone.

Anyone with a suitcase resonator laying around, can you tell me what size of pipe (2 1/8" I'd guess) wouyld slide into the inlet end and how far? I might try to slide some metal tube baffles in there.

Not sure if all share the same suitcase but I have one off my 5.0 sitting inside my recycling bin...

It looks the same and I have heard someone say all three cars share the same resonator. Do you mind describing what you see looking into the inlet side?
- Does it look perfectly straight thru? Like a 2' piece of say 2 1/8" pipe would slide all the way thru?
- Are the inner tubes perforated? Or have raised louver holes?
- Can you see any physical crossover pipe inside (X or H)?
- Probably hard to get a picture with no light inside. :)

Thanks

I am not the best picture taker in the world but hopefully, these would suffice.

Very interesting! Looks more engineered than I expected. Thanks for the pics! Hard to tell from the pic if a straight pipe would slide all the way thru. Any bends or curves inside? Sorry to bug you for more favors, but if you have scrap tubing (pvc, metal, or whatever), I'm trying to find out if 2 1/8" o.d. pipe will slide in from the front. Hopefully all the way thru, or find out how far a pipe 'would' slide in? Hopefully to cover the baffles 6" -12" at least.

Hey, if you are throwing the res away, and happen to have a cutting wheel or a sawsall to peel off the top and get a birds eye view of the inside design, that would be amazing. If you have a way and the time to cut it open, many here would love to see behind the mystery curtain of the design and how much actual crossover between banks is able to occur.
(I hope today was not recycle pick up day ;) )

Thanks again for your pics!
Edit: Look like pics are from 'cut off' outlet end and inside 'looks' like it might be curved actually. Is the inlet side appear to be straight for a ways or bent. (pest stepping away from keyboard now ;))

Both of the inside chambers are straight so a solid pipe would fit inside with no problems.

I'll see what I can do about cutting it open; I do have a sawzall but the key to cutting something this thick is to secure it properly so the blade cuts through it like butter.

Lol...no worries. yeah the pics are from the cuts I made on the muffler side; on the 5.0s, the passenger side slightly bends to the right while the drivers side is straight. I believe on the V6s, its slightly bends on both sides? Even with that slight bend, I believe a straight pipe can go in there rather easily.

Someone on here opened it up. its been confirmed that it is straight through all the way, without any crossing.

I thought I saw one opened up months ago but not sure. I have not been able to find on the multiple threads (especially with most having many pages of posts). If anyone has a clue or link to the thread and post #... cool. :)

Insight into our V6 Resonator

I just posted pics of the inside tube view of our V6 Resonator (has holes, not slots) . It is definitely different from the GT Res. (has slots). This is just pics and a drawing I made of what the insides look like as best can be told from seeing the inside pipe from end to end.
