I thought I saw either pics of our resonator opened up or at least shots from the end won the tubes. Anyone know of pics of the suitcase res. (hopefully opened up)?
EDIT 7/1/15: GOOD pics from end to see inside baffleing (posts # 8 & 10). Big thanks to member Rvlyssup!

Can someone with their resonator removed measure either the inlet id or the pipe wall thickness. I measured the o.d. and it is right on 2.25". I'm guessing it is ≈2.12 to 2.125". How far can a 2 1/8" pipe slide into the inlet? All the way thru?

I am considering trying a simple mod with no cutting involved where I insert a baffle set inside the inlet end of the suitcase to try to change the sound wave of what is sent to the mufflers.
Maybe something like these, maybe preferably just a perforated pipe w/o fiberglass and w/o a cap at the end

Now I am thinking of trying to 'cover' the (assumed) perforated pipe the entire length of the resonator*. A totally different engine (4L V8) and exhaust system, but a lot of M3 guys are cutting open their resonated exhaust boxes and either covering the perf. pipe or replacing it with solid pipe.

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55728
(tons of threads on this M92 M3 bypass mod)

On the M3 replacing the perf pipe makes it louder and deeper in tone. Not sure if this would reduce or increase my drone, but If I can find ≈ 2 1/8" thin wall pipe to just slide into the front of the resonator, that would be easy due to no cutting of the stock mid section (which I am hesitant to do). I can certainly get 2" o.d. pipe and expand the ends a bit. A 24" 2" o.d. connector pipe from O'Reilly's already has one end expanded.

Just spoke to Shawn from Corsa.

Hopefully, they will have a system for our cars early 2016. If they manage to make it sound 1/4 as good as their GT system does, ill pay whatever is needed in a heartbeat.

Years ago I had a Corsa exhaust system on a GT, and I remember laughing out loud every time I started the car up in my garage. The laughter didn't last long as my wife would yell at me that I was "waking up the babies". Well that was years ago, and I have "graduated" to a comfortable Cyclone V-6. If a Corsa could just make my V-6 just a little bit more melodious...just a bit is needed. I would spring for such a system as long as it had no "drone". Come-on Corsa...there are customers out here.

We need to hear some revs. Idle sound is only a small piece of the sound. ;) A drive away would is important too. ;)

Hey guys,
I'm about to order the Roush Axle backs for my V6 (to come lol), and was wondering about where to get the best deal; through CJPonyparts, it comes to 505.99$ with free shipping with the forum coupon code, do you think the price can be beat anywhere else ?

I haven't seen any roush exhausts for under $549, so I'd go for that deal! Unless you find one used in good condition

V6 Resonator guts...

I unbolted the suitcase resonator to see what was inside and to see if I could modify my drone by inserting 2" pipe to cover/ defeat what the Res. does. Bottom line, inserting diff. lengths of 2" pipe did not lessen my drone. On the plus side, we can now see what is inside our V6's suitcase. The inside pipe's are different from what was posted for the GT on another thread. GT Pic was from opposite (back end), but showed slots in pipe, not holes like our V6 (and most resonators and mufflers). As you can see from the rough drawing I made, the V6 has two areas of drilled out holes, 1" & 5.5" long respectively. Before removing, at idle I listened with a stethoscope to the sound along the length of the resonator. From the points marked starting at the front of the res, the tone or pitch was noted. Very high, med high, high, medium, high, very low, very low, very low.

On the passenger side I was able to slide 2" pipe all the was thru to the other end. The driver's side had a bulge 7" in AND was curved some. I had a piece of 2" pipe w/ a 1 7/8" o.d. for ≈3", so that side I only was able to go in 9.25" from inlet end (so 1/4" past the first set of holes).

Test one: (measuring from end of inlet not res. body)
passenger side put 12" insert (2" o.d.)
drivers side put 9" insert (2" & 1 7/8" o.d.)
Result was no less drone and maybe even more!

Test two:
passenger side put 22" insert (2" o.d.)
drivers side left 9" insert (2" & 1 7/8" o.d.)
Result was no drone but much muffled sound on passenger side. Not a good sound. Low was gone. High rpm acceleration and deceleration were much higher pitched, not quite to rasp territory, but very close. I could see if the other side had the same (almost) full length insert, the combined bank's sound would have been raspy. This makes sense, because i think that is what I recall of the resonator delete sound with various axle back systems, mufflers or muffler deletes.

Conclusion:
Looks like there is no change I can make to my mid section to make the sound produced there 'a little less low' to reduce my drone. I may need to resign myself to just the lessened over all tone of the 14" long MF 11225 mufflers (w/ stock res.), and learn to live with the mild drone this comes with. Who knows, I may look into creating a +/- 37" long 1/4 Helmholtz tube to quell the drone in the 1500-1900 range.

Not a result I had hoped for, but at least we have a bit more insight into our stock resonator!

Well dave, since you went through all this hassle to draw the resonator out, why don't you remove the top portion of it so you can take an actual pic of the insides and we can see it clearly? it would be awesome if you could.
