So you paid $6000 in 2010, $9000 in 2012, $5500 in 2015 to switch cars..

On average, ~$2500 each year for ~8 years, not including the 1st car purchase price. So maybe you're beating depreciation in the short term and losing to it in the long term, so you can have different cars every couple years? And somehow I doubt you're getting the exact car you want every time, but the last one on the lot. How is that a good deal?

To each their own, but I don't envy you. You're playing the dealership's game. Its like betting against the house - even when you win one, you're still losing in the long run.

If you kept the one car you loved for 10 years, you'd be ahead financially.

I spend $2500 a year eating out! Not to mention upgrading to better Mustang platforms everytime I've made the move. Each move has offered more amenties on the car bought as well.

The guys in this thread are complaining about losing $5000 - $10000 in a couple of MONTHS!!!!

And somehow I doubt you're getting the exact car you want every time, but the last one on the lot. How is that a good deal?

How does buying a base '13 GT in 2012, a 2015 50th Ann Packaged 401a with Auto GT on the showroom floor, and a 2016 GT PREMIUM 400a with Auto off the transport truck justify buying the LAST ONE ON THE LOT???



I've kept cars for 2 years and been given the same amount I paid for them as trade and then bought either at dealer COST OR BELOW.

Seriously, Ecboost premium, PP, Nav, Shaker pro, Parking sensers. $35,000 sticker. 3 months old with 3000 miles mint condition. KBB say $26,300. Thats ridiculous! I paid $21,000 for my Veloster and got $16,000 after 2 years. Traded in my 10 year old Toyota Corolla and got $4000, it was $16,000 new. American cars have the worst resale value...absurd...so glad I leased.

I was curious on the value of my car so I went around and got some numbers. My car is an EB Premium with PP, Nav, and 10k miles.

Sticker on mine was $34,000 and Car Max wanted to give me $19k, while the dealership wanted to give me $23k (begrudgingly after negotiating them up). :frusty:

Now I understand depreciation will always hit you no matter what, but only getting less than 2/3 the value of the car for trade-in after less than a year seems ridiculous. Clearly American cars have a value problem they need to deal with.

Guys , things are simple.

The first owner is always the big looser. PERIOD.

Even when you first start the engine you loose 20% .

At least enjoy the cars for many many miles.....

To be fair about the resale value, punch in some numbers on the camaro and challenger. I guarantee they have the roughy the same depreciation as the mustang.

I've had a couple 4 door wrangler rubicons. They had crazy resale value. I had an 09 with 2" budget lift and 35's. I had 33,000 in it and sold it 5 years later on craigslist in 1 day for 28,000. Only losing a grand a year is incredible.

At that time I had a tuned golf tdi as well for my high mileage work car. I had it for about 3 years, had $25,000 in it and trade was 14,000. That sucked but I missed my rubi and found another one that I liked. On a side note, that tune cost me $700 and it was a one time thing with no tunner or logging included. Tuning a GT is cheap compared to that.

My next was an 14 rubicon 4 door for 35,000. I kept it almost 2 years and got 31,000 for it on trade with a damaged wheel, bald/cupped stock tires, a car fax hit, and 52,000 miles.

I love my new GT though and plan to keep it for a long long time. Eventually, it will be sitting in a garage next to my dad's 65 fastback.

My current DD is a '13 Sahara 2-door, my fourth Wrangler since '98. The one before this was a '12 Arctic 2-door, and should have been painted yellow due to its lemony tendencies. I didn't see keeping it long-term (I usually keep drivers 8-10 years) since it was so intermittently glitchy (I think it had electrical ground issues) and, to make a long story short, it only cost me a grand to drive it most of a year also.

That kind of value retention is crazy, wish it were the same with Mustangs. Since my '15 is the first one I bought new, I plan on keeping it a while....

I got $29,500 trade on the '13GT

So you bought the car brand new from the dealer for $27.5k and then traded is back in, used, and they gave you $29,500 for it.

yea, almost over 3 years later too! Bought it in April 2102 and traded in July 2015 AND got paid for all my mods too!

You are full of it. No way a dealer gave you $29.5k for a used, 3 year old base 2013 GT.

If they did they either made a huge mistake and/or are complete idiot's. You could buy that car cheaper when it was brand new. (As you did).
