Remote Start???

In the process of taking delivery of my TY GT Convertible with 401A package. My Intelligent Access Keys do not have the remote start button yet all documents say the car is supposed to have remote start. Anybody know what the scoop is? Is there a different way to activate remote start? I have lock, unlock, trunk and panic buttons on the keyfobs. Comments appreciated.

If it is a manual then you don't get remote start.

For safety reasons, the car will lurch forward and stall if left in gear when remote started.

I wonder how hard for manufactures to add a "Park" function to a manual trans. This would have avoided a lot of crashes.

I know that an aftermarket system can be installed on manuals and wired to the neutral safety switch for manuals. Not sure why the factory doesn't do this, but would assume it is still a liability issue.

I guess because some people do not use parking brakes at all.

I worked in a lab with many European graduate students, and they all said the proper way to park a manual car was to shut off engine, put it in 1st (or rev, depending on the angle of inclination), and engage parking brakes. Few of them said they don't even engage parking brakes.

They flipped out because I leave mine in neutral and just engage the parking brake.

That being said, I was told by a fireman friend that a firefighter had aftermarket remote start put in his vintage manual car, and when he went to show off the remote start, the car drove off, and he had to run and chase it across the parking lot, until it ran into a tree.

I would have no problem leaving my car in neutral and with parking brake on (to get remote start), but I guess if your parking brakes are not maintained, your car CAN roll on a hill and hit another car, which could turn around and bite Ford...

I purchased a remote from a 2015 automatic, and just tried to program it in my 2015 manual. The car claimed that the remote was successfully programmed, but I found that NONE of the buttons on the remote were working (lock, unlock, etc...) including the remote start button.

My car also did not recognize the key (couldn't lock/unlock doors from handle). But if I were in the car and dropped this automatic key into the receptacle under the cupholders, the car would actually let me start it.

So sadly, I am returning the key...

I was so hopeful as I read that most companies that offer remote start as options, it was just in the ECU and all you were paying extra was for the remote...

Leaving the car in gear, was a measure for older cars, when the parking brakes really didn't do much.

Remote starts can be put on manuals, as someone else has said. I heard at owner's request, to avoid liability.
