Remain Stock?

When viewing the forums, you see so many options for 'upgrades' to Mustang, and thus so much choice. Almost overwhelming at times; but choice can be good.

Alas, are you one that is going to leave your Mustang 'stock'?
After all, some have spent $35k plus, for a Mustang, and might not necessarily want to spend more on mods/upgrades. Plus, some might have the concern about warranty.

Just curious on the public's point of view.

Ya like they way the car is stock? Leave it stock. Wanna go faster? Open up your wallet. And shred your warranty. So many choices in life, eh?

i always debate this as to what is "stock" and what is "modified". i have been to plenty of shows and this is the biggest debate....between MCA events and non-MCA events...
for my 2, i have MBRP exhaust on the 15, both have a new shifter knob, and both have the blowfish shifting bracket (which can be removed), and soon to be both having the steeda jacking rails (so i can clean and rotate wheels). other than that, i add some decals to make it personal to what i like, but thats it. now, does this count as trully "modified" compared to what most of the forum members have done here? who knows....but by rule one change from the factory is considered "modified".
nothing says you have to "modify" it. if you enjoy it the way it is then go with it.
where i live i have no need of 800hp so why spend the $10k for something i cannot use....

I am one of those who is not planning on modding much. This is mostly due to running in a stock autocross class. Current mods to the car are custom valved Koni Yellows with stock springs, ARP wheel studs and open end gorilla lug nuts (because the stock ones suck), and a spare set of PP wheels with good rubber. Future mods include a set of wheels and tires, 18x10 or 18x11 for track days but thats about it.

This car in stock or slightly modified form is extremely capable and most people will never push it to its limits.

The mod bug bit yet again. Didn't have plans to go this far into custom parts - but its my hobby. The MGW shifter is by far my favorite and most function mod though. Most of the other tidbits is for sound/looks. The stock drivetrain I'm fine with leaving as is - it'll just get me into trouble faster wanting to feel the extra added HP...

Mine is mostly stock. Added a strap under the trunk lid to assist in closing without getting fingerprints all over the spoiler or trunk lid. Also took off one of the supports to make closing easier. Added an H-pipe. Ended up being too loud in the cabin so I deleted the under hood sound enhancer. Now it sounds perfect both inside and outside. Added a personalized license plate (UD L05E). I like it just the way it is now. No future mods planned.

Albeit, I do get your point.

Each time I buy a car I realize how not necessary it is to modify cars that come from the factory with nice options. It seems like each iteration of cars become more and more customized looking. Everytime I purchased a car the first thing I was doing was going online already planning on what to upgrade and didn't even drive or learn the car but that lessoned each time I got a new one. Now with the 2018 I look at it and truly feel like there is nothing that needs to be done to do. I think the stance looks great, the exhaust sounds great, it rides smoothly and its fast.

People spend THOUSANDS (myself include. I spent around 8K on my last WRX in performance bolt ons alone) for performance mods that only yield less than a second/few extra MPH to the actual speed of the car. Everything looks huge on paper when it's broken down by thousandths of a second but on the street it literally equals an extra half length of a car in terms of how further ahead you get... think about it... for thousands of dollars lol. I think a lot of it comes down to the same mentality we had in school. We wanted to wear name brand clothes, nice shoes, etc so to feel cool, fit in and to keep up with your friends. People will probably deny this, but it's true somewhat. Everyone want's to be a little faster, better wheels, etc, than their buddies.

It's also nice having that mentality of never having to worry about a dealer or Ford question you when an issue irses for work. Every time I start modding cars I seem to become more and more paranoid each part and thinking "well if something happens I could be screwed" which then prevents you from fully enjoying a car.

Snow Tires and Steeda Jacking Rails for me.
The best Mod I did was buying a 2010 Silverado so I don't need to drive the Mustang in the snow anymore.


Keeping mine Stock. I'll have car payments for 3 and 1/2 more years and I can't afford to have something break and NOT have it covered with warranty. I've got a kid in college sucking my wallet dry so I'm lucky I have the car.

It's pretty fast the way it is. I got a speeding ticket the 1st month I had it so I would know

Paid straight cash in March of 2016. Has about 40K miles on the clock. Driven everyday and plenty of road trips.
I stopped modding cars in my 20s. Now I'm almost 40 and don't have the need or the wants to mess with the car. I put gas in it and drive... I'd rather drive it than work on it. I take it to the dealers for maintenance.
My free time is spent with my wife and dogs. I don't care to work on cars anymore.

This is what is have be come as the years go on (will be 39 in june). My 2016 Mustang GT was the first car that I took to the dealer for servicing. I also paid someone to install my suspension both times as I didn't feel like doing it. I plan on doing the same with my 2018. Plus I can't really do it any cheaper than the dealer does it for me and it's all documented in service records.

Spending time with the car in the garage is relaxing.

Garage door open, a beer, cigar, and the car on jack stands while I leisurely tend to this or that under the hood or under the car while listening to NFL radio. I'm more relaxed just thinking about it.

Stangs are one of the best cars to modify as they have so much potential (due to many factory weaknesses) because Mustangs have to be all things to all people, grand tourers, dailys, racecars, grocery getters.

With that said I bought my car with knowing I wanted to mod it in mind. Instead of buying a brand new fully loaded stock mustang for 40k that would be the same as every other Joe Smoe's. I bought a used one for 27k and wanted to dump 5-6k into knowing that my Mustang will be the only one that exists exactly like mine, while being much more fun to drive and look at.

I haven't done the more significant mods such as headers, intake, tune, etc. because I want to keep the powertrain warranty for any expensive problems, should they arise. I would recommend stuff like shocks, springs, and an exhaust since they make the car so much more enjoyable to drive and can easily be switched back to stock if you need to, besides the Koni shocks and BMR stuff have warranties. I run a lot of Ford GT350 items on my car (mainly suspension and appearance stuff), most of that is excellent quality, so I doubt I'll ever have any issues with any of those. I do keep all my factory parts and could have my car back to 100% factory in a few hours.
