I dont buy the idea Ford wants to get it "right" before release/test...They know how to do it right. They do it right everyday across multiple platforms. This isnt there first ride at the rodeo for releasing and building a car...Its what they do.

Every other manufacture manages to "get it right" while still having pretest and pressers ahead of the actual release. Ford has already built dozens of these models for training cars. There should be no surprises at this point..Whats left to do, train the plant and get ready for mass production? If Ford is still working out the bugs at this point (ie getting it right), help us all and I will be glad Im waiting on MY 2016.

Im sure there is a legit reason behind their path...

To me, the timing follows a traditional new model year fall introduction. I just think that with the proliferation of instant information, people have grown accustomed to getting what they want when they want it, and frankly they can sometimes be a little needy and greedy. Just as this has changed the daily news cycle, its changing the way customers research and buy cars. The OEMs are still trying to figure out how to best handle it. On one hand, they play it close to the vest to keep the competition from knowing too much too soon, and to promote sales of existing models. On the other, they want to please potential buyers and keep their interest. The trouble with tipping their hand too soon is that people seem to have ever shorter attention spans, and they drift away if they aren't constantly fed. So, they have to strike a balance, and as people become ever more used to having what they want when they want it, this situation will happen more and more. I say cut them some slack...


We know exactly where they are - Flat Rock Assembly Plant. As said elsewhere, Ford is diligently making sure that all processes are sorted out and once they're happy with the cars, they will release them. Its not that complicated to understand - it just requires patience. I've seen how this works first hand - there are a number of issues and adjustments that are being worked right now, and they people involved are working very hard at it. This is what takes place every time a new model is launched, I'm sorry that it upsets you. But, I think you'd be more upset to receive a car sooner, but then have to bring it back to the dealer 5 times for recalls...
Thanks for your perspective. What you say matches well with what I've seen for the major Mustang launches since 2002 (when I first bought a Mach 1 and was closely following details of the progress). Back then, it was harder to get information, and as you note, now it's much easier and impatitience results without the steady diet of details.

I know it's hard as heck when photos and words are all we have. Official review or not, I think many of us who follow the details in this community are more informed on many specifics that the general population won't have. That group of buyers will come onboard with those details.

Exactly as you describe, it would probably be a bigger bummer to get a car that has to come back multiple times for assembly or reliability concerns.

We are so close now.

Ford better get to it and start releasing the drive test curfews soon. The car is starting to bore me and doubts about many of its less pleasing attributes like rounded shape, size and weight, and perceived fun to drive sacrificies from losing the rear axle are all starting to grow on me. I need some reviews either reassuring me of its performance or telling me its a boring yet more capable car, etc etc
This is a brand new car and generation. New sheet metal and SO much more. I would advise you to go buy an S197 and call it a day instead of complaining. No, there's no reviews because customer cars haven't even started to roll off the line yet. Fall doesn't even start till September 22, which is when Ford has been saying the car will be available and you want reviews already? Get over it.

There is a legit reason, you just don't seem to see it. The process of getting it right is exactly what's been stated here - and every new car launch from every OEM goes through it. This is how "every other car manufacturer manages to 'get it right'", even if you don't wish to believe it.

These aren't Matchbox cars they're building, where you can just turn on the assembly line and go. This - and every other modern car - is a very complex assembly, and a lot of things can potentially go wrong or be overlooked between the TT & PP phases to MP1 & 2. That's why they have the MP1 phase - to verify that everything is coming together properly and provide an opportunity for any teething problems (it is a brand new tooled line building a brand new design car) to be sorted out before moving into MP2. This is how its done, whether you buy into it or not.

Also, FWIW, the cars going to the media are typically built at MP1. Sometimes TT or PP build cars will be used, but often these cars are in hot demand internally for test work or aren't finished enough to be presentable. MP1 is, for all intents and purposes, the first cars truly representative of the final mass-produced assembly. So, we can't really expect media reviews before they have cars to review. I'm guessing that they're just getting or have only just gotten their cars and are reviewing them as we speak. Again, we must be patient.
