I recently put a staggered set up on my 2019 GT. 20 inch wheels around with 295/R30's on rear and 275R30's on front. Tires are Nitto 555 G2's. Sidewall says max 52 lbs, but I know that's a full load and the car would ride like a wood wagon. I'm running 37 lbs in each right now but just not sure tha'ts enough. Does anyone have a similar set up and can advise what pressure you're running and how you like it?

Thanks!

Yeah, 52 is too high. I always go by the PSI recommendation on the sticker in the door jamb. Not sure about changing to a taller wheel (shorter sidewall). You might check to see what is recommended on Mustangs with 20 inch factory wheels (if there IS any difference) I would start there. My Mustang is supposed to be 32F and 32R.

You get better responsiveness and gas mileage with higher pressures but of course the "wagon" ride. One thing to consider, if you hit a large pothole it is less likely to bend a wheel or split the tire running at or above targeted PSI, so definitely never let your tires run underinflated if you have short sidewalls.

IIRC the pressure for the factory 20 option is 34psi. I'd start there. If you're running narrower tires that stock or very low sidewalls you might have to bump it up slightly, but 37psi sounds high.

If you have a laser temperature gauge you can measure the middle of the tread and the inside/outside shoulders immediately after a drive. If the center is hotter, lower the pressure. If the edges are hot, increase it a bit.

Thanks for the info. I like the laser temp idea!

Cool idea!

Also, in the Ford manual it mentions using higher pressures for driving over 100 mph, but I never found specifics. So there’s definitely a range that is acceptable, at or above recommended PSI. I’d rather go a little high than a little low.

I’ve found that tire stores always go a bit high. Maybe they are presuming we won’t check our tires until coming in for a rotation.
