Had a customer trade in his 12 911 GTS Cabriolet for a 350 this weekend to put next to his GT4. I'm just wondering from the Porsche guys, what is the GTS all about?

We wholesaled it to a Porsche dealer for 4K over wholesale, just wondering why they paid over wholesale for it, and why 4K over on the first bid?

The GTS is (while not a GT3) more of a street version of the GT3. It has less power and more compliant suspension, some different ground effects. It's for the guy who DD's his car but doesn't want the hard edge of a GT3 on surface streets. Probably a more practical choice for most.

Gotcha. So is it exclusive enough to warrant paying so much? My GM was considering buying it.

Makes sense though, he is planning on driving the gt350 daily instead of the GTS.

Might be foreshadowing of the value increase for the non-turbo 997/991
911s since the 991.2s are all turbo now.

Yup... exclusive, limited and still in demand because of key factors.... as stated, the new 991.2 cars are pretty much all Turbo now therefore these limited production 991.1 GTS cars are one of the last naturally aspirated road & track focused 911's out there, with an emphasis on sporty grand touring more than a race circuit beast like the GT3/GT3 RS cars are.

Another factor is it closes the gap between a regular Carrera S vs. the GT3... and the GTS provides some aesthetic trim levels otherwise not seen on a regular 911. There are Porsche enthusiasts out there who want near-GT3 like abilities yet still want grand touring luxury features found available only in standard 911's. The GTS fills that void.

Porsche GTS cars have always been desirable so obviously that helps its value. Even the 997 GTS cars hold their value very well so it's proven the "GTS" is still sought after. This goes the same for the Cayman and Boxster GTS models... also desirable and limited for the same reasoning. The new 718 is getting mixed reviews, for example: look at Evos' latest take on the 718 Boxster.

The 911 GTS cabrio and especially the Targa are even more limited... any pics of that droptop [MENTION=21698]swedensky[/MENTION] ?

I'd argue that the 2011-2012 Carrera GTS is the best 911 that Porsche has ever built for the street. It's naturally aspirated, has that classic 911 look that is somewhat lacking in the 996 and 991, and it offers an engaging driving experience. The Turbos are more powerful, but since the 996 they've been more GT cars than real sports cars.

997 GTS is on my wish list - and Bossing's right - prices have not really gone down much on the used market. Time to time I see a private seller with a mid $70's pricing on a sub 10K mile manual coupe car. . . but not often.

White is definitely my color of choice and manual. .

For reference, a 997 GTS sells for more than a newer 991 Carrera S. Last of the "analog" 911s with naturally aspirated motor and hydraulic steering. And with relatively low production will always be collectible.

PDK is so good the manuals may not demand a whole lot more but certainly appeals to the purist. R8 manuals (and a littany of others) are worth considerably more than auto/sequential gearboxes. Partly because older units like R-Tronic are awful, but also repair costs can be brutal compared to a standard clutch/flywheel job.

All MY2012 911's are still on the previous 997.2 chassis (the .2 means 2nd gen of the 997-series)... in the US market, the 991.1 replaced the 997.2 starting in MY2013.

That 2012 GTS is one of the last of the wonderfull analog 997-breed. Some interesting options on that one... not bad. PDK isn't bad at all neither since it's a cabrio anyway for urban drives or open-top spirited cruising. Carrara White is an understated yet beautiful sparkling metallic color... my Macan Turbo is Carrara White.
