Just a bugbear of mine, as in my line of work (nothing to do with cars) I know how the "general public" have a reputation for expecting something for nothing, with it being a race to the bottom (not saying it applies here). We now only deal with commercial clients because of this.

What is quite funny is, I have had one complaint in the 10 years of being a service engineer. I completed a job a hour quicker than I quoted. It happens quite often. The complaint was from Renault lol all these dealerships are tight as fuck!

I wondered what the hell you were on about on wattsapp when i said that a man approached me at the SERVICES yesterday. NOT my service department!!

To make it clear the sales team and service department at Birchwwod Ford in hastings are VERY good. I HAVE and do recommend them to others and 4 people from well outside the area have brought cars from them due to my praise of thre sales AND after sales service!

Just to follow up on this in case it helps others, Think Ford have indeed taken over the old Gowrings dealership - now Think Ford Reading. They can do servicing - but not warranty work at the moment as they're not fully setup yet with Ford. Soft launch was March 6th, 'official grand opening' is this weekend 17-19th. Apparently they're looking for a site to build an entirely new showroom - so that sounds promising for any other locals like me.

As I have to take it somewhere that can do the warranty, have booked into Guildford. To keep warranty intact (painfully), I have to stump up for a 10k service @ £224, but have asked whether I can supply the oil (which they said accounts for £170 of the price!). Awaiting their response on this....

Rather painful having only covered about 500 miles since the last oil change, but there you go!

Apologies, more accurately I should have said not ALL Ford owned. It's common for automotive manufacturers to own some dealerships in the network. That said, I expect service pricing is set by Ford anyway.

On balance - I decided to take out the 3 year service plan from Ford (I have extended warranty afterall). Given a minor service was going to be £224, it was a no brainer and it means the service book/warranty will have Ford stamps all over it.

This is completely at odds with what I'd normally do, but I decided it was worthwhile in this instance. Oil and filters (if doing both) come to about £100 even bought direct, so it's effectively £96 a service which I think is very fair given the peace of mind.

Talk about a U-turn from me!
