Hi folks,

As a rule, I service my own cars and bikes. However, as I have a recall notice for the wiring loom am considering having a first service done at the same time?

Thing is, I did an oil and filter change at 500miles and the car has only done a shade over 1k now!

Anyway, my local dealer has shut down (Gowrings, Reading) which, given the shambolic service I received from them, comes as no surprise. So am looking for recommendations for another Ford Store/dealership who aren't a million miles away to get it booked in.

Any recommends? I think Trust Ford Guildford have a good rep and aren't a million miles away, or Trust Wokingham whough they're not a Ford store.

Or I do it myself using my mate's indy garage (VAT registered so warranty is intact etc.)?

If you did it at 500 I wouldn't bother, they will only do what you did and charge about £160 and won't stamp your book until it's proper 1st service 10000.The wiring loom fix is a bit of silver tape and a tie wrap lol.

Having my first annual (but only 5500 miles) service plus pony projector replacement (hopefully) at Think Ford Guildford on Monday so I can feed back. It's a 'while you wait' and you can see the workshop from the coffee area. Did my recall there and serviced my Mondeo and my daughter's Fiesta. All good experiences so far. They do a video of the underside before the service.

If you are on or around 12 months then worth having done somewhere for your service record. Think Ford having taken over some of the Gowrings branches I believe.

Personally.....I'd get the recall done at Ford, simply so as it's "officially" recorded as being done on your car's VIN (I assume Ford record it on the VIN, anyway!).

For the service......nope.....keep doing it yourself :)

There is no Trust Ford at Guildford or Bracknell/Wokingham - it is Think Ford

Only the Guildford branch is a Ford Store so the other branches are not qualified for Mustangs.

I can thoroughly recommend Think Ford Guildford.

I can't comprehend how you are only at 1K miles after a years ownership but your 500 mile oil change was your choice and you may need to consider the 1 year / 10K mile service to preserve your warranty even though there is obviously no need for the service.

I guess he won't be making an appearance on the "Spotted" thread anytime soon. :D

As for Think, all Ford dealers are able to work on Mustangs now, although obviously only the FordStores will have the properly trained techs. That may differ for warranty work though.

Think wanted to send mine to their Transit centre(!) in Farnborough to have my gearbox noise checked out as it's the same gearbox. Their service guy was surprised to hear there's such a thing as a manual Mustang, so I cancelled that appointment! I shall pop in to their Guildford branch for some reassurance...

Reading has been purchased by the same company who run Guildford, however I used Guildford for the initial annual service and was impressed, was circa £220. Meant they could fix the slightly sticking passenger window and an out of shape pony wing mirror light.

If you do the service you get a years Ford breakdown warranty thrown in, plus a stamp in the service book. From memory the wiring loom recall was identified before your car was registered and dealers weren't allowed to release without it being done, might be worth asking a dealer to double check if it was recorded on their systems.

The wiring loom issue came after some cars had already been delivered. My April 2016 build had it done on the production line I'm guessing as I haven't recieved a letter

Mine was built after the recall and I thought it had been done whilst in the states, I got the letter and it's actually a 2nd recall so you might want to check yours.

I've used Platts in Marlow in the past and they've always been good. I wanted to buy the Mustang through them but they weren't allowed to sell them so I had to go to Gowrings.

I got mine on September 1st 2016, it's done 1200 miles since then and is now coming up with an oil change warning which seems odd so I'll be going to Platts soon.

Don't bother. All they will do is reset the oil light. You can do that yourself in the menus.

Thanks for the recommend re Guildford.

Re the miles - fortunately for me, the Mustang is a weekend toy (and work means I get precious few of those too). I have several other cars/bikes which get used for the most part.

Service is purely warranty preservation really. In the 7 years of ownership of my S197 I serviced it myself for the entire time - but being an import warranty wasn't an issue. Makes sense to preserve the one I've got with an official UK car for now at least. May have a word with them to see if I can get them not to do the oil change as it has been done already!

Whilst my car shouldn't require the recall/mod as it was built a couple of months after the issue was ifentified (Jan 2016 build) they keep sending me letters - so will get it sorted so they can clear it from the system.

Just to follow up on this in case it helps others, Think Ford have indeed taken over the old Gowrings dealership - now Think Ford Reading. They can do servicing - but not warranty work at the moment as they're not fully setup yet with Ford. Soft launch was March 6th, 'official grand opening' is this weekend 17-19th. Apparently they're looking for a site to build an entirely new showroom - so that sounds promising for any other locals like me.

As I have to take it somewhere that can do the warranty, have booked into Guildford. To keep warranty intact (painfully), I have to stump up for a 10k service @ £224, but have asked whether I can supply the oil (which they said accounts for £170 of the price!). Awaiting their response on this....

Rather painful having only covered about 500 miles since the last oil change, but there you go!
