My car (at 62,000 miles) has developed a rear suspension noise that started around 55,000 miles which does not happen all the time (my guess is weather/humidity/temperature plays a role) where going over slight bumps (like speed bumps) at slow speeds makes a sound that best resembles the sound a very old bed/couch makes with old springs. Whats strange is no matter what I do, I shake the car, push it down from trunk while car is stationary and I cannot reproduce that noise. I dont know if something needs lubrication and what that might be.

My daughter tells me that the days when this noise happens, she can hear it even at higher speeds but I cant and thats probably because of the road/exhaust noise from where I am sitting its very hard to tell.

Not sure if its related but around 40-45,000 miles ago half shaft seal on that same side had to be replaced due to a leak. That axle had to be completely removed which required a number of bolts (the big ones) to be removed/replaced (as per Ford, those bolts are one time). Again, I dont know if its related or just coincidence.

Any help is appreciated.

Could be anything... Lubrication of stabilizer bar mounts? End link bushings?

Since you drive in the winter, any chance the springs have rusted somewhere?

Otherwise I am inclined to agree with Falk - sway bar mounts on the arms/end links?

Guys, turns out this is the rear tail light rubbing against the bumper. A small felt tape in the area fixed the issue! I hope its helpful to anyone else who might experience it.

Amazing that would transmit into the cabin considering all the other exhaust and mechanical sounds made by this car.

I know. And I have the even louder ford performance full exhaust, but it does. I m glad it isnt the suspension. Interestingly I read about this problem elsewhere in other mustangs so its not just me. I think with time, the rear bumper sagged causing the rub.
