I just got this car and have noticed the right rear seat backrest cushion is not flush with the left. It is very noticeable to me. What do you guys think? Is it just my anal retentive attention to detail gone overboard? Should I make a quality control issue and contact Ford?

Have you tried folding them down and closing them to see if they line back up

I took it to my dealer service dept. The guy said he was pretty sure Ford would not send a replacement seat. They would tell us to fix it in shop with parts... He kinda looked stressed and sighed we really are not upholstery fixers. I believe what he says, but I feel this is a quality control issue and the backrest assembly should be replaced.

Yep Ohsofast. The service guy and I have both manipulated both seats to see if it made any change. Not happening. The seat cover looks like it was not made tight enough to fit the foam inside. Too much material at the corner.
Have you tried folding them down and closing them to see if they line back up

Tell the guy your pretty sure your unhappy with it the way it is and would like him to not just guess at it and contact ford to find out what they will do to resolve the problem.
At that point you can make your choice on what to do!
Sounds to me like he just didn’t want to do it, remember it’s you buying that new car that keeps him working, he isn’t doing you a favor by guessing what fords response might or pretty sure will be.
If you want to get somewhere, just do some searching and find out a contact number for the local area coperate regional service manger and express your concerns with him/her they will get the ball rolling.

Can the passenger side rear upper seatback be adjusted down to be level with the driver side?

Are you sure it’s not an alignment issue with the upper mounts or latches, because it looks like it needs to drop down.

No I am not sure of that. I could take a look and see. The hinges are covered by the backing material and not visible. Maybe there is an adjustment. I would rather adjust it myself if possible rather than have the service dept. that has no confidence in repairing it.

Update, Ford Customer Service has initiated case-17786655-X1p8cp Jerome from the Ford Service Team states that he will review with the servicing dealer to make sure they have all the necessary materials and capabilities to insure my satisfaction on the resolution of this case. If it all plays out well I will be impressed with the speedy action Ford has taken to expedite my concern.

Ford corporate is usually way better at wanting to handle customer service than your local dealership. Getting to know your local regional rep will be a good thing for any future problems.

You are correct Osofast. Going over the head of my local dealer has paid off.
I just got a call from my servicing dealer. He has been authorized by FMC to repair/replace, whatever it takes to make both seats right. He estimates 2 days shop time and will take the car as soon as it fits my schedule. Ford will also pay for a rental car.

Thanks Ohsofast your reply directing me to FMC was good advice. It may have eliminated a lot of time and headaches.:thumbsup:

Took my STX into the dealers today for a free wash. I also wanted to see if the Mustangs on the lot had the funky seat backs. I was shocked to see that 12 of the 13 cars had uneven non-matching, misshapen backrests. At least 1/2 of them were worse than mine. Only one in the whole group looked right. Maybe Ford knows this as a control problem but would rather address this as customers/owners complain rather than make a manufacturing change. It may just be my expectations of perfection, and attention to detail are higher than what Ford thinks the average consumer would demand. Do any of you S550 owners have rear seat back cushions that are as uneven as mine? If you do are you OK with it? Comments...

Thanks for the reply Ohsofast. The dealer's service dept. worked on the seat and got it near perfect today, by removing the seat cover. The foam padding is glued to the plastic seat back and really doesn't allow re-positioning without destroying the foam. The service manager wasn't satisfied with what they had done and ordered a new seat assembly just as i had requested. It will take 5 to 10 days to get this part. I have picked the car up today and will return it when the parts come in. Actually what the service guys did looks a bunch better, and I would probably be content. I didn't tell them that though. I guess since I made a issue of it they now want it to be picture perfect. Suits me just fine.
