It seems the rear plate just screws directly into the rear bumper cover without any sort of nylon nut insert or anything to tighten up against. To make matters worse there’s only room for the top 2 screws. My place feels loose to me but I’m afraid to put any torque on the screws for feel of stripping the soft plastic of tge bumper cover and creating a big expensive problem. I also don’t see a way to reach up behind the cover and use a nut and bolt versus a screw to hold the plate.
anyone have a good fix to address this? I don’t know why ford doesn’t make the rear bumper cover with inserts molded into it that can secure the rear plate on all 4 corners.
EU guys, you’re on your own!

You can use something like this. The plastic inserts give the screws something to grab onto. It will require drilling larger holes though…

You could do a bolt and nut combo. With the Mach, you’d have to remove your rear belly pan (if it’s possible) to get to it. In my GT, I can get to the license plate screws underneath the car, although it is a tight fit around the backup light.

I'm running a heavyish metal frame around the plate. 6 years this month and no issues

You just need the right plate frame.
