No the dealer it is at said they have had a few mustangs with rear end failures. None pp cars tho.

When I just called dss the guy I talked to didn't seem to care at all about my troubles. It really pisses me off to pay so much money for a part then to have it fail. I have a tow bill and now a dealer inspection fee and it's no big deal to dss. He told me to send them both in and it will take a week to 2 weeks to fix them. ARE YOU SERIOUS? I had to ask for them to pay for return shipping, he never even offered. Really not happy with this customer service.

Well after getting it to the dealer to have it looked at, come to find out it was my drive shaft shop axles that came apart with less than 500 miles on them. All of the inside housing bolts were loose on the passenger side. But on the drive side they fell completely out and one sheared off. Pics to.come.
Dang. I was about to pull the trigger on some DSS half shafts too. I read the early Ford Racing half shafts had a revision on the bolt torque specs due to loose bolts.

The purpose of this thread was to see if anyone else has had or heard of this problem.
Now the next people who look at this thread wont read the entire thing and instead make a new thread asking if their diff will blow up.

Domino effect..

You should have told him, hes paying shipping, hes paying for towing and hes paying for the dealer fee. If he said no, id have asked to speak to his boss. Calmly that is. Itd be different if they weren't basically new. Id also have said, hes keeping that pair and sending new ones.

reminds me of my 1982 GT. I was doing a burn out as I left school one day. the 7.4 inch rear end did exactly as you describe. But I did it in front of a few hundred school mates.

Tried to swap for a 8.8 from an 1985 GT, but the cost was too much.
Haha, same thing happened to me after high school in my 84' GT, my classmate lived down the street and every day he would throw water into the street and I would stop and do a burnout... one day that little 7.5" rearend couldn't take the bouncing and wheel hop anymore and shattered into pieces.

My 15" PP GT does have a little "rear end clunk" when you release the clutch and you are turning, don't know if its the axle or the rear end... either way doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Hmm... Almost looks like it would be better to go with Ford Racing axles, installed at the dealership. This way, any issues would be taken care of there.

I had the same issue with my 1400 HP DSS axles. The drivers side is tight but all the bolts on the passenger side were loose. I am trying to decide if I should pull the axles out or just add loctite and torque them.
