Hi everyone,
I have just stripped my rear calipers on my Gen2 GT to paint them. I was absolutely stunned to find corrosion in one of them!! This is not due to old brake fluid or moisture in the fluid as it is on the outer side of the seal, under the dust cover. There should be red grease in there, but there was none.
The reason I was so surprised is because the only time my car gets wet is when I wash it. it has never been driven on wet roads.
I have heard of issues with rear calipers seizing and locking on, I wonder if this is the cause? Next time you do/have your pads changed it would be a good idea to pull the seal off the piston front and check there's grease in there. You can't remove the seal totally, without unscrewing the piston, so don't pull it too hard, it wont come out.
