'Been noticing a rattle - sounds like some sort of heat shielding - first thing in the morning on my way to work / cold start.

It rattles for maybe a second or 2 and then goes away. Roads to work vary from bumpy to highway driving (half hour drive) - never hear it again until the next morning.

Any idea where it might be?

While installing a new exhaust last week, we removed the convertible additional bracing under the back suspension - we checked the other day and everything is tight / doesn't move with a good push and tug by hand.

I feel the sound is coming from the front of the car / near the engine.

Any ideas where? What to check?

Check belly pan bolts (all of them) and the plastic wheel archs clips, if these don't work check side skirts.

If none of these, your cars gonna explode (Totally joking)

Ebrake assembly

The ebrake cable assembly is located under the driver side floorpan, almost in same area as center console. It’s attached to the upper driver side trans tunnel between tunnel and exhaust. The cable gets loose and will rap or rattle within the tensioner or against exhaust/floorpan.

You have to get under the vehicle and adjust the slack out of the ebrake cable. There’s threads on here how to do it - or if your car is under warranty have Dealer do it.

The same noise occurred on my prior 2016 - and it was sporadic like yours but seemed to be more present on a cold start ups, certain levels of acceleration and/or road imperfections.

The only other noted rattles on this site were from defective resonators up stream of the catback or the shield covering the turbo.

There's a little piece of metal, near the front of the resonator iirc, that's like a 2"x3" square with two rivets holding it in. That will get loose over time and rattle. I'd bet that's it. If you can get under that area of the car, it's pretty easy to spot.

what juben said was rattling some at startup and then it got super worse with time. in the shop where i got an oil change i got under it and saw it. youll see it pretty obvious, adjust it and the rattle is gone
