I had an EXTREMELY annoying rattle from the area of the Driver's A-Pillar. I spent several months trying to find it. I had to replace the Evaporator after the noise started which required removing the Dash. I went over the entire Dash VERY carefully but was unable to find anything loose or any signs of the source of the rattle. I had the A-Pillar trim removed while I had the Dash out & went over it as well. The Kick Panel has to come out to pull the Dash so I went over it too. Still couldn't find any signs of anything loose or the source of the rattling. After I finished getting the Dash back together I started on the Door Panel. I concentrated on the top section but still couldn't find anything.

So finally I started driving the car with the Driver's door panel removed. That's when I found the source. Turns out it was the Driver's Door Lower Speaker (6 1/2"). The rattle was intermittent and it didn't matter if the stereo was on or not. But in the Ecoboob the engine soundtrack is ALWAYS playing through the audio system so that's why the noise was present when the stereo was off. The rattle was also present windows up or down, top up or down. It was most prevalent during braking for a turn or when coming to a stop. No idea why.

I believe the cause of the rattle was that the magnet inside the Speaker broke. If I tapped on the Speaker Cone at the right spot I could hear a clicking noise. It was this clicking noise that was being amplified by the Speaker making the annoying rattling sound near the A-Pillar.

I replaced all four 6 1/2" speakers and now the rattle is gone for good. The foam surrounding the cone in all 4 Speakers were deteriorating so they needed replacing anyway. But only the Speaker with the broken magnet was making the rattling sound.

FYI.

Oh the amazing rattles of the Mustang. I have had numerous.

Most recent one I fixed that I thought was coming from the pillar was actually the air vent rattling below the dash. You would think being rubbing against pleather that it wouldn't rattle, but it was. I took that all apart and slipped some buttle tape behind it and it was enough reduction of rattle that I found the next one that I need to address sometime in the near future.

Next rattle that I need to fix is the back cover of the cruise control switches. That thing loves to drive me crazy on my way to work. Has me driving with my finger on the back side of the wheel 50% of the time now.

I think I have the same type of rattle in the passenger door 6 1/2 “ speaker. I really don’t want to remove the door panel (don’t have the skill to do it). Can I remove the speaker without removing the door panel? If so, how?
Thanks, Graeme

Removing the door panel is easy. DM me if you want and I can walk you through it. You have to in order to address that speaker.

Thank so much for the offer. Since I posted on this site, I watched 3 videos on the internet, which were quite good.
I think I can do it now, probably really slowly. Thanks again for the offer, if I get hung up I’ll text you.

The door isn't really that difficult. And yes, you do have to pull the panel to access the speaker. The tricky part is removing the small trim panel behind the interior door handle. I made a small 90 degree "hook" from a short piece of solid house wiring (12 gauge Romex) that I use to slip through the little opening on the edge of the trim panel to pull it out. It works quite well. You also have to pull the window switch panel & separate the electrical connector. After that its just a matter of removing a few screws/bolts, pulling the snap clips, separating a few wiring connectors, and separating the cable to the interior door handle. Takes about 10 minutes once you know how to do it.

Good luck.
