Hey Harold, yes I agree. I would love to be able to buy this car. My wife is agreeable to anything that I can figure out how to pay for, but this one is out of my reach, dang it. :crying:
Certainly understand your situation and would suggest that pretty much all of us have been in your situation one time or another.

I remember back in 1992 I had two friends and great car buddies that both owned 1965 Shelby GT350's and within 6 months of each other both of my friends offered me their '65 GT350's one of which was a very early production model and one of the first 31 cars that had a Shelby VIN that did not designate either the "S" for Street or "R" for Race as all of the early VIN's just had "SFM5004" as an example.

Long story short I was in your same position and passed on both of these great cars and have never forgotten about those outstanding opportunities as my buddies were asking $55,000 to $60,000 Canadian at the time for each of these vehicles.

Not suggesting that our situations are the same but in any case you get my point.

Sure wished that you could figure a way to pull the trigger on this really cool car!

I recall this car quite clearly as this vehicle was 1 of 3 Base R's that this dealership ordered in error (the Sunset Ford individual that ordered these 3 R's failed to request the Electronics Package) and in fact all 3 of these Base R's for this dealership had consecutive VIN's.

These 3 Base R's were built approximately a month after my Base R which was assembled on March 13, 2018.

It is my understanding that Sunset Ford was able to get rid of 2 of these cars but obviously traded this Base R to a Ford dealership up North that would have a chance of getting rid of a non AC car much easier than in Central Florida.

I realize that unlike most other enthusiasts such as myself and a few other members think that these Base R's are very cool based on the fact that they are a bare bones car along with being very unique (especially on the interior) and extremely rare from a production numbers standpoint.

This vehicle is 1 of 19 Base R's built in 2018 for the U.S. market with the other 2 Base R's being built for the Canadian market. I was very fortunate to secure one of the two Canadian cars.

Doing a very quick count from memory these bare bones cars some with 11 delete items compared to the Electronic Package cars.

Of the 2138 R's models built for the last 4 MY's there were only 135 Base R's built out of that total number and would suggest that this may be that very last new Base R model for sale in existence and hope that one of our members jump on it and become a member of our little group of Base R owners.

That was an awesome tutorial dude! Certainly alters ones (my) view of this car! I'd love to have it. If ever there was an easter egg sitting somewhere, sounds like this is it.

Thanks for your kind words!

I agree about a nice Easter Egg sitting in St. Louis for someone to pounce on and suggest that this cool car will not last too long all subject to reasonable pricing.

My biggest concern after purchasing this car would be taking possession of it during the extremely cold weather that we are having up North as the Cup 2 tires are prone to cracking in any weather around freezing or below therefore I personally would ask the dealership to hang onto the car until such time that temperatures improve to a low of around ~40 degrees which should allow for transportation to it's new home at that time.

Certainly the least of anyone's worries once purchased and would think that the dealership would work with the new owner and hang onto the car until early Spring for pickup by the lucky new owner.

Or I could just suck it up and buy it! Surely the tires would make a 27 mile trip home. Or grab a trailer! I hate those decisions in life that tell you to bite off juuussstt a little bit more than you can chew, LOL. If I wasn’t a single dad, this would be a no brainer for me! On paper, I could afford it, but a little more commitment than I currently want. Oh well.

Jon,

If you are going to follow through, let me know. If you are not, I may have to give them a call and consider selling HR361. A base and an electronics R to go along with the 500, it makes sense, don't you think?

I messaged the dealer and told them I have one, but was curious about the chassis number on this one - they confirmed it is JR357. Mine, JR265, went down the line on 3/28/18, so this one is very late in base-model production. As hypothesized, it is likely the last or nearly the last one down the line.

Confirmed that it was the last base R ever made.

Congrats that is awesome! Did you trade your car or are you keeping it in addition to the new car?
