GT Three 50:
Well, I finished the AMP dynamat and drove the car for the first time. Still a buzz/rattle present which sounds like it's coming from the front dash. I am also pretty sure there is a secondary one coming from the back area.
How difficult was it to remove the right rear interior panel just below the side window?
also, the trim piece next to the sunglasses drawer... are you talking about the molding that goes up the side of the lower dash where it connects to the kick panel?
Appreciate any input you can give me!
Hi Lorne,
For the right rear quarter panel I did not remove it. I was able, after locating the exact spot of the buzzing to lift the upper edge and stick a length of foam tape underneath which has prevented any noise and has been good now for more than 3 years. The dash panel next to the sunglass drawer is held on with those plastic clips holding most interior panels on. The panel will pull away if memory serves (that was the first buzz I killed more than 5 years ago). First try with a patch of Dynamat did nothing so I tried again with the foam tape and it has not come back. Dynamat does not seem effective at quelling buzzing. My thought is that foam will fill any gaps and stop resonance but being soft foam conforms and won’t interfere with fit or function. Don’t forget to check the seatback latches also. My right side will rattle/creak when the chassis flexes. A wrap of electrical tape around the striker usually fixes it for a while but does wear through. Not a huge problem, just more of an annoyance (I think knowing the source bothers me much less knowing I can easily address it rather than having to hunt down where a noise may be coming from). I hope that helps a bit. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Darren

thanks Darren,
I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. It's going to be yucky weather here in WI this weekend so going to tackle all of this.
my only question with the panel next to the sunglass tray is exactly where to apply the foam... is is usually where a panel would make contact with another surface?

No problem Lorne. As for exact location it’s been a good while and without pulling mine off I’d be only guessing. Yes, any obvious spot that look like it may make contact but It’s no precise thing. Id say any spot that may be making light contact is where you want to focus attention on. A little extra won’t do any harm so long as the panel fits back in place without any excess preload. I think so long as the panel in question is a nice snug fit it should quiet things down. Best of luck!

Lorne,
I just had the RR panel out of mine. 2nd time I have removed it. There are 2 push in clips at front, upper and lower, so you need to remove lower piece of back seat first. Then I pull the front edge of panel out away from window. If you pull p or toward the front you could break the clips.
Hope this helps
thanks george,
can I ask why you had to remove the panel? also, do I need to remove the actual rear seat to get the panel to clear?

You need to remove the bottom section or rear seat only. Push bottom seat toward rear of car and lift up.
I had installed a camera dvr system and decided to remove it. Had run the wires along rocker and under RR panel to trunk area.
