Question for the guys running LTHs...

I’ve decided on the FBO path for my car, and have also started to accumulate some parts.

I will be getting Long Tubes and am curious about the OffRoad headers. I’ve had them before and I just couldn’t stand the smell sitting at a light, etc. I will be getting a new CatBack so I can adjust the volume of OffRoad headers to some degree.

For those running OffRoad LTHs, is the exhaust smell noticeable? It sure was on my old 2V.

Yes.... I do a lot of stop and go local driving and it's noticeable.... smell and I feel my eyes burning a bit too.... have had worse but now I'm 50 and don't want to deal with it..... looking into putting Gesi cats on.

If available tune for and run e85. Not only will the power increase change the car completely it also smells really good on long tubes unlike standard pump.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Unfortunately E85 isn’t an option for me.

Kinda what I figured with the exhaust smell, just thought I’d confirm. Sucks cause was looking to save a few buck. Also, I’d like one of the Cam Idle tunes but to my knowledge those can’t be ran with Cats. Wonder if that includes high flow cats like on the Pypes or SW headers?

only in stop/go traffic. Depends on how hot it is & Jacksonville is usually hot all the time. No regrets though.

Funny you made this thread. I went to a car meet on Saturday and my buddy followed me in his 19 GTI. I asked him how bad my exhaust smell was because I've seen cars literally shift lanes behind me so they don't have to follow? His response:

"I smelled your gas fumes all the way there".

I don't smell anything in the car or idling at lights but I am on E85. I can't remember a time I have had 93 in the tank while catless so I suppose that is something I would have to test myself.

I do have the catted lead pipes as well to my ARH headers so I can always put them back on. I like the sound more without the pipes for lower RPM driving as the cats almost make it significantly quieter in the lower rpms.
