Question About Traction Control

Was it like a stutter? Sounds like misfiring to me. A vacuum leak could be responsible if there was one after the install. Bad gas could cause this as well. But what you're describing there is different than how I'd take the first description.

What I'm talking about would feel kind of like if you shifted into 6th gear way too early, floored it, and felt the car stutter and nearly fall on its face.
I'm glad you asked this, now I can probably give a better understanding. Although I have a 10 Speed, I would say it felt like if you were to shift gears but it was left in neutral for a few seconds like there is a disconnect. The difference is I am not sure it wasn't changing gears or not

Then that's not what I was talking about, nor is that traction control. Although, if your tires are cold, traction control won't stop the spin. I don't mean to offend by this, but could it just be that your tires are breaking loose and you're just not used to it? Especially in poor weather, with traction control on, my car could break loose and spin in a straight line without the back end kicking out. First time it happened I actually thought the clutch slipped, but you have an auto so it can't be that.

No offense taken, that could be it. That would just be weird accelerating with bout 30-40% throttle. I also didn't hear the wheels spinning at all either time, but 1 time I was on gravel in the street.

I didn't either. You wouldn't hear the wheels spinning on gravel, you'd just hear a lot of gravel kicking up. 30-40% is definitely enough to cause your wheels to spin on a gravel road, but I can't speak to the second time.

Regardless of the issue at hand, I would advise against flooring it on a gravel road. Poor traction and all those rocks get kicked up around and on your car.


I think you should do what was already suggested. Take the car out and drive it for about 20-30 minutes. Get the oil and engine up to operating temp, and then make sure your tires are warmed up. Now go into a parking lot or open and empty road, and floor it. See if you can recreate the issue. Now (I recommend being in an open parking lot if you're not used to this) come to a stop, hold your foot in the brake, and hold the traction control button down until you see "advanced traction control off." Or something close. Repeat the spirited driving and see what happens. Just show a bit of safe judgement, and have fun. Ideally what you'd find is that it is just your wheels spinning. So either the warm tires eliminates it, or having advanced trac off puts the car sideways making it clear what's happening.
