I talked to a small dealership yesterday about a GT350 and the salesman said he'd be happy to let me order one at MSRP. The only thing is, I'm not knowledgeable about the allocation process. Do dealers require an allocation for an order? The salesman said I would need to submit an application through Ford to see if I my finances are good enough for an order. Does that sound right? It seems like they don't have an allocation (he didn't specifically say he did) but they're ok with me trying to get one through Ford.

Salesman may find that when he submits the order, he is denied allocation. If it is for a GT350, it may work, but if for an R, likely not happening.

Make them show proof of the allocation, generally in the form of an e-mail from their Ford Rep, before you let them run your credit.

That's a good question, I didn't ask that but I'll do so the next time I talk to them.

Dealers who are part of the shelby program bought in last year and have 1 allocation guaranteed for 2016 and one for 2017. I'm not sure if there is a second chance to buy in mid way through the program, there are a few dealers on here so perhaps they might know better

Ah ok I didn't know that. So dealers have to actually buy in to the Shelby program in order to get an allocation. They can't just submit an order for a customer to get one. Like you said though, there might be the possibility of buying in mid-way through.

I wouldn't want them to run my credit now.... then they have to run it again when the car comes in.... if they get you approved now its only good for 30-45 days anyway...too many hits on the file its not good.... Give them a deposit and call it good......

Oh yeah and the credit/application does not sound right at all. The dealer having an allocation and being able to order it and a customer being able to pay for it are two completely separate transactions, I certainly would not let any dealer run my credit to simply order a car. Heck my dealer never ran my credit at all.

Yep, multiple members saying I shouldn't let the dealer run my credit. I agree. I'm already planning to stop by after work to get clarification on whether they have an actual allocation or not. Thanks guys!

100% no need to run credit at this point. Just tell him I am not financing it through ford credit so why do you need to run my credit ???

I would not sign or pay anything until he confirms he in fact has an allocation.

Good luck

So I visited the dealership after work. They don't have an allocation. I asked for a clarification from what he told me yesterday, and he said that they can try putting in my GT350 order (along with my financials) and see whether Ford will allow the order to go through.

I have to reiterate that this is a small dealership. They have in the past, however, sold limited production models like Shelbys and F-150 Lightnings. So I don't know whether they're just unfamiliar with the process for the GT350 or if there's an actual chance that this will work.

1. Wants to run a hard pull on your credit because they don't trust you.
2. Doesn't even know if they can put in an order for one. Would have hurt your credit score for no good reason.

One too many red flags, I'd try to find another dealer.
