I guess the carrying cost to the dealer of a left-over Camaro is so small they just won't do the same deal I got Ford dealerships to do on the Mustangs without a whole lot of arm twisting.
That's a reach if I've ever seen one. I don't think Chevy dealers are sitting happy with unsold product on their lots. Do you have any evidence to back up your claim?

sure, the last few days worth of negotiations. I did 82 and 83% of MSRP out-the-door deals last year without trying with Ford. The Camaro deal last year was 85.5% and they refused to do anything close to that without resorting to the Mustang cash. This time they wouldn't even hear of 85% and also gave me an astonishingly bad quote on trade-in equity - I asked simply for NADA trade-in and was even willing to knock that figure down some. So much for *wanting* let alone trying to move their inventory. And it's not like I haven't done deals with different dealers - Sheehy, Koons and Lindsay. 40% crater in unit sales I guess is not sufficient motivation.

That's not evidence, that's an example of a shitty salesman on one hand, and someone trying to get rid of cars on the other. Plus, there are a million factors for them to make that decision one way or another. I'm not refuting your story, but your example isn't indicative of a nation-wide or dealer network wide stance on keeping inventory around.

If you have numbers that demonstrate the age of Chevy vehicles on a lot against the sale price staying stagnant, I'd really be interested in those.

I had decided to at least go and look at another Camaro in Rally Green (while I wait to see what Dodge is going to do with incentives) seeing how it may be too late to order one and WTF, they discontinued the Mustang conquest for some odd reason! All things being equal, that may have been the tipping point between the two, but now IDK, they don't seem like they want to sell their cars too bad. Heck even some of the Challenger 50th anniversary models (which were supposedly all spoken for and at MSRP or more) are now showing up with some big discounts. I haven't found one in the color and top options I want anywhere close yet, but there should be more coming as soon as they get back to work and I'm crossing my fingers I can find one with a discount.

just look at the pricing history on car gurus of various Camaros. The prices keep going up as a trend line once you account for the zig-zags. No, I didn't look thru every listing in every state. Or tabulate trends for I4 or V6 because I don't care about those.

they actually didn't. they just don't advertise it.
I'm pretty sure they did. I heard it on the Camaro forum and pulled up a couple cars I had my eye on in which they had it in the ad and it is now gone and the sales price has gone up a bit too. Makes no sense to me, but maybe they will put it back up. I noticed Dodge has a habit of changing their incentives day by day at times too or maybe its just the fact their build site is always lagging way behind whats actually available.

BTW, GM did recently add an incentive program for first responders that I would qualify for being a nurse. It doesn't say what the exact discount would be because you have to apply and put in your info and it depends on the car, but it sounds like a good estimate for an SS is around 1.2-1.5k off. Not bad I guess as that and the current incentives should come off of whatever discount the specific dealership has going on. For me the trade in value they are willing to do and interest rate will have a big impact on my decision.

it was still very much present on my term sheet tonight. the first responder, education, military etc. etc. discounts were separate line items and in my case didn't apply.

It maybe the case where the dealers have decided to give GM the finger and let camaros sit on the lot because GM is refusing to give the dealers incentives to move them.

I am not saying they're not sitting on lots, you just came to the conclusion that is was because the margins are better or something to that effect. That's why I disagreed with you, because you made a claim that didn't have any basis.

Car manufacturers don't make a ton of margin on most cars. This is why SUVs and Trucks are a more preferred market to manufacturers, because you can mark them up quite a bit more than cars.

But anyways, the Camaro is not in a good position to say the least.

It seems like the longer a car sits, the more they would be willing to negotiate to get rid of it, but that doesn't seem to always be the case for some reason. I have seen some 19's and even left over 18's at or near their original MSRP. I'm thinking they must rationalize that they have so much money in it by keeping it in inventory that they don't want to let it go too cheap to not lose that extra money it has cost them.

Good observation. I think the 2019 Camaro front end refresh has something to do with that.
The more it looks like a Mustang the better it sells

Just wanted to share that this had me laughing for a good minute! - Of course.. after the 30 seconds of me turning my head sideways like a dog, trying to figure out exactly what was wrong with that picture..
