That's ok, remember some 17 ton trucks have 7 litre engines so 5 litres in a car under 2 ton is nothing so it's fine to pull away in 2nd, saying all this I must admit to using 1st but that's just habit.

Always start out in second. Unless I'm on a steep uphill.

OCD says use first.. I've got a 2.3, so 1Litre per tonne :lol: (well the car is like 400kg shy of 2tonne)

Same here, used to pull off in 3rd gear in the truck sometimes, not that I miss the 4 over 4 box at all. We have automatic trucks in work now and its one hell of a lot easier!

Agree, pulling away in 2nd in a v8 is nice an easy, run to the red line and drop into 6th, happy days.
My TVR was so light (with lots of torque) that anything shy of a stop would be fine in 3rd, then you hammer through the full rev range in 3rd, such an awesome range of noises... ah I should never have sold it. Regret it every day. I do love the Mustang, but in a very different way.
When I get the new exhaust in I may get a little more of a connection with the Stang.

Not sure how the auto 'box handles standing starts when in 'D' as it doesn't display the selected gear, but when it's in 's' you can start in anything up to 3rd. If you have your instantaneous fuel economy on the display, setting off in second would seem to be the most economical.
