“Real Mustang enthusiasts use prop rods”. So...here’s what I did so the rod would not mar my white hood.

I bought some 1/2” shrink tubing from True Value Hardware ($3.50), fitted the first piece just past where the rod contacts the hood, then shrank it into place with the kid’s blow dryer! They will never know.

Then, I cut a second piece to cover the every end of the rod, so that the tubing did not stop half way around the last 2 curves. Shrank it down...and was done!

Until I enter the 21st century, I will stay with my prop rod.

Thanks

Don't chunk your prop rod. If you have struts and pop the hood at a car show they work fine but... if the wind blows hard the hood will start bouncing on the struts. That can be a bit concerning. When I know that a show may be windy, I carry it. Just pop the 10mm screw back in to mount the prop rod for extra bracing. I have a piece of tubing on the rod so it fits snug. No worries, you can go off and talk to buddies and stroll the show without worrying about the hood.

This is a smart idea as I have seen more than one hood slam down on a windy show day.
