Programming new key fob for older gen

May be a dumb question, I don’t have time to look into the internals of the 2015-2017 mustang key fob right now so I thought I would check with people here. Does anyone know if it’s possible to program a 2018+ keyfob for a 2017 mustang? I looked online a little bit and couldn’t find anything with much info.

It should work considering they are the same generation.

Maybe. They use the same 128 bit chip and the remote entry is on the same frequency but they have a different FCC ID. We have a 17, I may just try it and see.

I’ll be home in a few days but will still have to order one. If you’re able to before then lmk. Very interested as I hate the 2015-17 keyfob haha.

Finally got around to purchasing a 19-22 5 button prox key and this is really annoying. I was unable to program it to our 17 with my purpose built car key programmer but I was able to do it with the on board procedure in the owners manual. Took three tries but it worked. I have absolutely no idea why my programmer would not do it.
