No, not catalytic converters; CATS.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my barn cats. We have no mice, rodents or anything small that moves anywhere around the property. Those cats kill are killing machines. But, they love to sleep on warm cars.
Not sure about the rest of you, but I would think none of us want claws or bloody sacrifices happening on our rides. You say this is simple, keep the garage closed and cats away. In my world, the cats are more valuable than that. Those stories you hear about mice and rats decimating car wiring are true, and super costly. Our close friend was driving just last week and heard noises coming from the glove compartment. Pulled over and opened it up just to witness baby rats yelling for momma. How awesome is that?
So, in order to keep vermin at bay, I allow the cats to come inside the garage through a high window. The downside is the occasional paw scuff or dirt prints.
My latest plan was ordering a pet deterrent furniture pad.

Looks like I can either put this on the car cover or on the clean car. Maybe as a training device instead of permanent use, but time will tell.
It does get a bit annoying polishing out little paw sized scuffs, but at least I don’t have any chewed wiring harnesses. Will let you know if the pad works. These cats can’t be easily replaced at the parts counter.

I feel your pain. It must be so bad on black. I notice it the most on my stripes.

Back just over 40 years ago when we were first married, I came out of the house one morning to head for work, popped into my 'Vette, and fired it up. There was an awful screeching noise and thumping right off the bat, so I shut it down, but the thumping continued. I got out, popped the hood, and a neighbor's cat took off like a streak. I cornered him under our porch. I couldn't get him out, but I saw that about an inch from the base of his tail was bare to the bone. He then took off into the woods behind our house.

Looking for damage under the hood, I saw a bunch of blood and fur on the fan belt. He had apparently been sleeping under the hood on the warm engine with his tail under the belt next to the pulley, and the belt degloved the tail when the engine started.

Didn't see him for a few weeks, and when he did show up again, his tail had been amputated down to a 1" stub below where it had been stripped. Never saw him near my car again, though.

Peppermint oil diluted in water does the trick
