Preventing rust from jacking rails?

Tomorrow I'll be installing a set of Steeda Jacking Rails on my car. Quick thanks to Steeda for the forum discount!! I can't help but think that 10+ years from now water will have seeped between the rail and the frame and caused a big rusty mess.

Instead, I'm thinking about hitting the entire setup with Flex Seal black latex spray after intallation. I actually patched my 02 Forester's wheel well using gorilla tape, a tin snipped soda can and Flex Seal. Still holding after several months. The stuff seems to work.

I figure if the rails/frame were coated in it, it'd be much harder for water to find its way in.

Thoughts?

I already installed mine and after the fact thought about the same thing. Problem is with rust , worrying about it.

My 79 ford rusts with a spray bottle, these new cars have so much better rust protection it's insane. Look at any vehicle made in the past 10 yrs.

If you try to seal the rails now is it possible you will be trapping moisture between the rail and the car further causing what you're trying to prevent.

I say leave it alone much as you love it now you probably won't own it when it starts to rust.

I agree. There is no bare metal being exposed and the steeda rails have a durable coating on them. I wouldn't worry. I just installed mine. Just make sure you put rubber on your jack or a wood block; something that won't scrape the coating off the rails when you use them and you should be fine.

Scraping is still a possibility especially if lowered, not only when out and about but can happen when being driven onto an alignment rack.
Always a good idea to bring a couple short lengths of 2x6's or 2x8's (if you have them) most shops are usually prepared for lowered vehicles but the one I went to wasn't.:frusty:

Every so often when you have the car jacked up, clean the dirt out of the space and squirt a little Kroil in there.
