The GOP has been politicizing the idea that science should not be trusted for decades in the form of climate change denial and pushing creationism in schools. They've successfully laid then groundwork in equating faith as an equal to science that has resulted in Trump's actions having such lethal consequences.

Moreover, 100k more Americans could die and President Trump still wouldn't listen to science, if fact, there is no body count high enough for him to actually pat attention to science. President Trump would toss VP Pence into a wood-chipper if he thought it would get him reelected.
