Hey guys, i’m looking to power coat the breaks in my 2019 Mustang GT.

I called a shop. They said they have to be removed as they can’t do it themselves. Not only that, but I need a “rebuild kit”? and also whoever is taking them off needs to remove the pistons or something?

Idk this is confusing. What’s the cons of going with regular paint and also should I just buy new covers instead? I have no idea what the hell im doing but I want this done..

Thanks,

Breaks you might want to glue, or maybe even weld ...

Skip covers.

Powder coating is awesome, durable, if done right will look amazing, but they have to pretty much disassemble the caliper (after the color is applied they're "baked" at high heat). The rebuild kit is the rubber seals and whatnot, shouldn't be very pricey, you'll have basically new off the showroom floor brakes.

Painting them with some high temp paint (designed for calipers like G2) is a great solution. It can be done right on the car (requires a lot of masking), looks good, and it pretty cheap.

If you're going to PC them, you kind of have to plan for the car being down, so a better option is to score a used set from somewhere, since they'll be rebuilt anyway - then they can do the work, and you can just swap them out with your existing stock parts (and keep them for backup or sell them).

I hadn't a car on a jack in 20 years, and never on 4 stands at once.

That being said, 2 months ago I did the G2 caliper paint kit and it looks great, was very, very easy. I stopped at 4 coats, could have done 6 or 7 with that little of paint they provided.

I am biased though, so take it for what it's worth (that red is a reflection, got me for a second). :like:

Okay well that looks awesome . what’re the cons to this? This seems way easier than powercoating.

They would just paint it without taking it off right ?

Sounds like G2 is way more
convenient. Is there any cons to masking it?

Love it, nice! I've been very tempted to do mine in (body color) matching orange, there's a G2 color that's "close enough" to Orange Fury where it'd look terrific.

Not sure if a shop would do it, or how, it's a 6 hour job at most, good way to do a mod yourself and save some money. But yeah, great product, 4 jackstands, a lift and you're on your way.

Thank you, I'm a mechanical idiot, so if a guy like me can do it anyone can.

After this I learned the pros of clay barring and hybrid wax products. Great resource here.

Nope, just basically masking off the rotor, and then start brushing. After completely washing everything down, of course. Grab an extra brush maybe, they sent me the gold color kit first by mistake, and then the black, so I had 2 brushes to work with, and an extra gold kit if anyone wants it.

This dude who runs a powder coating shop recommended me another shop close by that does it. Idk if he does G2 but he said they do liquid something? I’m so bad at listening sometimes. xD. But i’m sure if I ordered the G2 I could have them do it - I’m not good doing these things myself haha
