Spot on... can't agree more with the above comments!

When I bought my Q7 in 2010 the forums were littered with people complaining about issues with things that had gone wrong, crap service from the sales, aftersales and service departments, and I then found exactly the same on the Skoda forums when I bought my vRS in 2014, and I have no doubt if I'd thought of buying a Jaguar or similar the commentary would be the same there!

These forums represent single points of exchange where concentrated opinions on the good and bad appear en-masse so it's it's always going to look like problems are more common than they really are (IMHO), and there's probably just as many, and likely even more, people who buy Mustangs (for example) that don't post on this or other forums. Ford sold over 100,000 Fiestas in the UK last year but I doubt if more than 1000 of their owners ever went near any forums - so they can't be said to be truly indicative of overall quality.

On a side note, I have to say the new Q7 is one of the most hideous creations ever to be spawned by Ingolstadt, and that, along with the boring and predictable characteristics of all VAG group, and indeed most German cars nowadays, is one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to going back to a Ford (and especially a US made rear wheel drive)... warts and all. Ford have never made the best quality cars on the road, but from my past experience (back to the 80's and early 90's) they were fun to drive... and that's what I'm after once more! The Mustang is, to me, a purchase made by the heart and not the head! :headbang:
Sorry, I agree with much of what you say here but I cant take Nookie Bear seriously. Hows Roger btw?

I had absolutely no reason to buy a second car, a new one at that, until I found out that my favourite Pony car was coming over here.

I certainly wouldn't drive a Q7 the way I have been driving my GT. I'd be dead by now lol

He's getting on... and I've become much more independent since the arthritis set into his hands! :)

Jags and poor build quality go together - it's why they generally depreciate like a safe going out a window. I love the F type really want one - but not paying silly money and seeing it free fall from 70k... with a mustang the build quality is good for the price bracket and the performance is excellent.

Q7 is a nice car, pays your money takes your choices... me I would take the mustang, bin the jag and have some fun with upgrades and express yourself. Missus is happy with the q7 everyone wins

You categorically do not need a Q7 to ferry a 2 year old to nursery.
This is absolutely correct. In fact, I have a child seat in my Mustang and have ferried my 4 year old both to AND from nursery in it today. ;)

She loves it, as do all her friends and the Mustang certainly gets more attention than the large number of Q7's/Touaregs/A6 Avants etc which are the usual staple of the nursery car park...:D

RRS attracts attention from people who think it's being driven by a 'footballer or someone off the telly'.

Mustang attracts people who think it's a stunning car. They couldn't give a toss who I am! :)

Get your wife the F Pace (and some track/off road tuition) and come back and tell us all about it.

Just to point out my Jag has been great so far, however dealer service has been pretty crap so far. Always wanted a Mustang and a Jag. Bought the Jag whilst waiting and for the time being will keep both :). My son has a Fiesta, great little car, Wife has an S max, great people carrier, Transit van for my business, great Van ! I think fords are great and I' m waffling whilst I patiently wait for my Mustang, warts and all I can't wait for it. Everyone keeps asking me about it and its not even here yet. :)

As some will know, moving on from my XK8 to the Mustang. 4th Jag in a row. All great with no issues to shout about mechanically or build quality. In fact this XK is the best car I've owned to date.
Time to move on though. What I am gonna miss is the Jaguar dealer in Oxford. Can't fault them in any way. Any suspected fault was investigated for free.
Yes, free. They used to tell me that I'm custodian of their future classic.:)
They've asked me to pop in to show them the Mustang when it comes (one of a very long list).

Anyway, just wanted to defend Jaguar. Just my opinion of course.

Back to this situation though: my Mrs drives a mile a day to work & then back. The head says that she should have a cheap, simple car.
I got her a 2016 mini, five door two weeks ago.

I work from home in Engineering. I should have a van.
I'm buying a 5.0 GT.

You only live once guys: if you like cars & can afford it, buy what you desire.

I might be able to help you out here..

I picked up a new q7 6 months ago and picked up my mustang 6 weeks ago.

I hated the new q7 when it first came out. I had an x5 so was just going to upgrade to the new x5.. The q7 grew on me, but the selling point for me is the interior and technology.. With the right options, its one of the smoothest and most pleasant places to sit for 50-60k. When i go from the q7 to the mustang, it makes the mustang feel like a 5-10 year old car. compare it to your rrs and it will feel the same.

Must haves for me when ordering: Dynamic pack (air suspension), Tech pack (virtual display and head up), park assist (surround cameras), pano roof.

The q7 is an amazing car in terms of technology and comfort it munches miles up with ease - plus with all the technology its one of the safest places for your loved ones.

The mustang however, is a completely different type of car - as you obviously know. I am not bothered in the slightest about attention but what i do like is the 'sense of occasion' when i get in my fun car. the mustang has that in abundance - yes its interior feels dated and quality is nowhere near that of the q7. but its got that sense of occasion everytime you open the door, sit in it and start the engine. Its not perfect, but its got a lot of character.. which is what makes it fun, especially that first time pressing on in the wet !! :D

the mustang negative for me: Customer service and help when things go wrong is awful from my experience.

You need both, lose the rrs.

Not sure how we've got onto comparing Q7s with Mustangs, couldn't be more different cars! 4x4s while being very practical and safe are incredibly boring to drive. That's why you also need a sports car/Mustang to inject some excitement into your drive!

A people carrier...you're joking, a Mustang or that, are you off your rocker, no matter how much I get pissed off with my cars faults i'd never have one of them over a Mustang, when I had my car (short I know) I reversed of my drive and two kids on bikes came round the corner and stopped in front of me shouting "it's a Mustang" somehow I don't think they'd have said the same had I backed one off them of the drive......"it's a Q7" defo doesn't sound as cool.
