My IATs creep up to 30-40* above ambient if I've been driving around in traffic for a while. Granted, it gets hot here in GA but it does make me concerned for the temps when I'm waiting between runs at the track.

Yes it's read at the MAF but just know it reads 5-6* high. Dead cold start in the morning after car sitting 12 hours or more shows the following. Ambient air temp 78* IAT 84* CHT 90*. CHT might be off too it seems it never matches ambient either.
Thanks! Yes that's right, The IAT always reads higher as you said, even stock.

Last night I drove around town at 50 mph, then at 75 for a couple of miles on the hwy. At 85 deg, the IAT was 91-93. Not bad. I did an experiment and let the car sit idling for 5 minutes. The temp rose to 120. After a couple of miles back on the road it was back to the 6-8 above. I have a foam block on top of the intake tube covering the void where the tube is cradled. I also have 10 holes open in the grill on the intake side. Still haven't opened the PMAS box up any more. I have noticed the temps drop quicker after idling when I have this piece inserted. It drops the intake roar a bit too, which is good or bad depending on what you like to hear.

I can't hear mine over my headers anyway
I do want to cut a piece of foam for mine to seal it off a bit more from fan wash.

The only issue I have with my PMAS intake is that the PVC connection to the PMAS tube is kind of wonky. It doesn't sit flush (the silver piece that PMAS has inserted into the plastic tube).

I'm going to try and put in a piece of painted Lexan instead of the foam to act as a partition, and find a similar rubber gasket like is found on the unit to seal against the hood. I could secure the Lexan with a couple of screws that can be taken out to remove the piece when needed. I think it would look a lot better. The foam does insulate well but I don't have it perfectly sealed yet. Modeling clay or a similar thing would be good I think, to help find the right height. Lay a bead of it and close the hood to see if and how much it deforms.

Put clay or silly putty on top of your foam seal and see how close it is to sealing.

i had to rotate my MAF downward too. it made me cringe a tad as the directions very plainly state upward...it just didn't look right or fit. i didn't like closing the hood on that connection. other than that i dig it

I got my Lexan piece made. Looks more finished than the block of foam I had in there. Raining here so haven't got to drive it yet. I found a local auto parts store that carries the rubber seal material exactly like what came with the intake kit. I placed that over the Lexan piece. I am attempting to attach it with Velcro. All it needs is a little hold. I also pulled the box this weekend and cut a bigger opening in the front. I simply followed the lines in the existing cutout and removed a section on the right side of the box. I did get to drive it with the bigger cutout and I now see a quicker temp reduction after heat soaking. I am still impresssd by the performance of this intake.

I drove the car to work yesterday, 29 miles, temps in the mid 70s. The IAT does creep up a little but nothing like when I didn't have some sort of partition. On the hwy at 70 mph, I was seeing 6-8 above the outside temp reported by the car, initially. After sitting in traffic (where it will creep up) then waiting for the temp to drop again, it settled down to 10-12 above. I never sensed a performance hit. It does take quite a while for the engine to cool off in these cars, so if you park it for even a couple of hours and get back in, you will see heat soak. Again, after getting back on the road the temp drops back rapidly. My conclusion is: having some sort of partition to finish sealing off the top of the box is a very good addition, and it will greatly reduce wild swings in temperature. It can be foam or the final solution I came up with, either works well. Both seem to reduce the intake roar on the road a bit too. With doing that, I also enlarged the hole in the front of the box (I closed the top of the box but opened up the bottom more). I also opened 4-5 more holes in the grille where air is drawn in.

Just installed my PMAS intake. Once of the easiest installs for sure. About 10 minute max. Great no tune system. The only thing I don't like is that it sits against the hood liner. 6-8 degrees over ambient is what I have been seeing. Cools off fairly quickly as well.

As someone else already pointed out, the IAT always reads higher than the car's thermometer. I checked it first thing this morning when I started the car up in the garage. It started out at 6 degrees above, so we are not doing too bad.

You need to be real quick when starting but on my UK car, ambient this morning was 9c, plugged in SCT and IAT also 9c. Started car and got to the gauge IAT cluster as quick as I could within 1s of starting and for a millsecond it was 9c, by a second later it was 10c.

So on the UK cars the IAT is not above ambient, just looks that way if you wait a few seconds before checking gauges after starting. :)

Since my IAT modifications, I can report highway 50-75mph stays 2degrees above ambient, city/traffic holds 4-6degrees above and stop lights or traffic jams and it holds within 10degrees.

Before I did my modifications the IAT was vastly more higher than ambient. The only downside of my modifications if bugs, spotted at least a couple of dead flies, so need to take a hoover to the filter every month. :)

Yeah mine is instantly 5-6* higher than ambient the second it reads. Even my HP Tuners scanner reads 5-6* higher.
