I'd like to start this topic by thanking everyone who has contributed to this forum, there's great wealth of information on this site and its categorized well. I've been following this forum since chazcron was creating renders for the 2015 Mustangs before the big 50th anniversary reveal. I have researched many vehicles but I'm pretty much set on a Mustang even with recent reveal of the Camaro and its upgrades. I wanted to get a 2015 Mustang but unfortunately my current lease on a 13 Fusion Titanium doesn't run out until Feb 2016, I could have traded it in early but would've taken a hit of 2-3k that I would rather pay towards the mustang instead of depreciation.

Yesterday I went to a local dealer here in Nebraska and test drove an Ecoboost & GT back to back. Both are amazing vehicles and I've made a decision to order a 2016 Mustang, I'm very tech savvy so the 2016 with Sync 3 would be worth the wait for me, myFordTouch is okay but I'd rather have the newer interface.

My dilemma is that I'm not sure if I should go with the Ecoboost or GT. The Ecoboost had plenty of power in my opinion especially when I put it in Sport+ Mode. I'm not planning to track the car or anything although it could possibly become a new hobby if I do end up getting a GT. The GT definitely had more power but maybe its due to the refinement or new IRS I didn't get the sense of being thrown back to your seat that people mention when talking about a GT.

The Ecoboost has lots of plusses being that I can probably lease it for around $400 a month, better gas consumption, lower insurance and I can get it with more options such as Performance Pack and Adaptive Cruise Control. I never owned a Mustang in my life and from what I read here, the GT is the only one to provide the full Mustang experience that any Mustang enthusiast should at least experience once.

Unfortunately the GTs don't lease well so if I go with the GT that means it has to be a purchase, my current lease payment on the fusion is around 350, based on the configuration I would get on a GT invoice is close to 40k and even with a 5k downpayment which I can do I'm probably looking at a $610/month payment over 60 months or $520 over 72 months.

I'd like to think that I would keep the GT for a while but the reality is a I tend to get bored with cars fairly quick, I keep wanting to upgrade to a newer vehicle. I'm coming from a 2007 Camry SE --> 2009 Honda Accord Coupe --> 2008 Cadillac CTS --> 13 Fusion Titanium(Current). Each of these cars I've had for about 2 years each.

I've attached spreadsheets for both the Ecoboost & GT configurations. It's only a difference of about 5k so if a purchase is compared to a purchase the jump in price isn't that bad but when you compare the Lease payment of $400 with hopefully nothing down vs $520-$610 with 5K down + Extra Insurance & Gas the price gap is more visible. The question is if the additional power, sound and not knowing if i can trade out of the GT within 3 years without being upside down on loan worth the payment difference?

Please provide your opinions on this matter while reviewing the spreadsheets and let me know if you think I should change anything with the options.

Sounds like the ecoboost is what you want based on what I read. Ultimately it is your decision.

For me it was a no brainer. I already have a pontiac solstice gxp factory tuned to 290 hp that does 0-60 in 4.8 secs and gets great mpgs. Why would I go to the same type engine (dual scroll turbo, direct injection. gm calls theirs ecotech) but slower, probably due to the heavier, larger mustang platform?

And while I still enjoy the zippy sporty feel of the pontiac, the V8 is something else. I haven't looked back.

But that's my history. Yours is something else, so it might work for you.

Oh, and btw, the mileage is not half bad for a V8.

If you can afford the GT and it's extra gas cost you should get the V8, look at how many trade up after going wit the smaller motors, if you wondering now you will always wonder about the V8.

Regardless what you decide, you're throwing your money away with a lease. Buy the EC and have some equity once you get bored with it. Then you can go buy the GT!

It's natural for Coyotes to inhabit Nebraska...just buy the GT and have no regrets. You need to read all the posts of Dystopic. He regretted his first purchase. You might glean something from his ordeal. Good Luck.

Coming from a Fusion Titanium with all bells and whistles I already feel like i'm downgrading on some stuff such as Lane Keep Assist that guides you back into your lane, SecuriLock keypad on driver's door that I use daily and would like to know if it can be installed on a Mustang, Sunroof that I use once in a while and dual screens next to speedometer. Base model won't cut it for me since I'm trying to offset the things i'm losing on. Some of the things that I will gain with a loaded Mustang would be Sync 3, Pony projection lights, adaptive cruise control, added power and better handling but most of all what I really love is the Styling and customization options.

One more feature that people tend to overlook that hopefully still applies with Sync 3 is the ability to rewind Sirius XM channels while listening to them and adding alerts for liked tracks, hopefully that doesn't get removed with Sync 3.

When I think about it overall a Mustang in itself isn't the smartest decision right now due to recently becoming a father, my son is 2 month old but car seat should fit in a mustang without issues and my wife drives a prius so that's plenty big for longer trips.

I don't want to be one of those people that holds off on buying performance cars until I'm way too old, I feel like if I get the Mustang now I'd get to enjoy it more and can even use it as opportunity to take it out tracks and become an experienced driver. The Just Do It gut feeling tells me to just get the GT and make it work financially but the logical and sensible self tells me to stick with the Ecoboost, not worry about upfront sales tax cost, downpayment, etc. Is the saving of 1 second on 0-60 time which I will most likely only get to test on a daily commute on the on-ramp to the interstate and different sound note warrant the extra cost of GT?

I can't really speak of the whole having a new baby or even having a wife, but, unless your wife/girlfriend is a very understanding woman, I wouldn't even think of buying a new sports car. But like you said, if you can afford it and you and the significant other find it logical/sensible/worth it, then go for it and get the GT. I'm a single guy and was set on getting the Ecoboost, but I knew there would be that part of me that would regret not getting the GT. Good luck with your decision, I don't think you can do wrong with either the Ecoboost or GT.

That was his personal regret based on peer pressure. Not everyone that buys one regrets buying an Ecoboost although a few people have. Thousands have been sold to happy customers who don't spend their time on this forum and the used car lots are not over-flowing with used ones.

If like you say, you get bored with cars quick and you switch from a Fusion Titanium into the Ecoboost, you're stepping into a very similar car. (No hate here but let's be honest)
The Fusion Titanium like my wife's, has a nice 2.0T. It's a blast to drive, it's beautiful inside and out and I enjoy trading back and forth with her. But you will find the EB Mustang is going to have a similar feel and motor. And there's nothing wrong with that, I ordered a EB Mustang, manual with PP originally but backed out and got my deposit back after driving a 14 GT. (the 15's weren't out yet to drive and the 14 made me giggle like a school girl)
I may still get a EB Mustang someday when Ford tweaks the front end styling or by then maybe Ford will even Nix the GT's V8 for a Turbo 6 and I'll reluctantly consider that also but should that happen, I'd probably look at a BMW 435 instead.
If I can't have a V8 by choice then I'll surround myself with dooshy luxury instead.

OR!!!..... If Ford's Lincoln division makes an Ecoboost version of the Mustang, well shut up and take my money! How about a Lincoln 2.7T AWD!

I second that as well, if Lincoln makes that car I'd be all over it as well. Is this a concept car or just a render of what a Lincoln Mustang would look like?

I could be wrong but I would think an Ecoboost Mustang PP should be a lot different than how the fusion drives, sure both are Ecoboosts but there is noticeable turbo lag on the fusion that is minimal on Mustang due to how its tuned. It should also handle differently due to it being Rear Wheel Drive and of course the added horsepower. Fusion only makes about 240 horses.
