As someone who has plastidipped an entire car (my old G35) i would not recommend it. My car was dipped for about a year and while it held up better than expected, after 2-3 weeks it just didn't look as good as when i first did it. The black started to fade and turn white in some spots. Cleaning it was a royal PITA and only further contributed to the weird stains and fading i was experiencing. The only reason I kept in on so long was because I was on a college campus and it protected my car from careless college kids. Someone keyed my car, or at least attempted to, but the plastidip protected the paint. That's about the only positive thing I can say about it.

If you spray it on properly it will come off in large sheets, sure. However, all of your door jambs, the gaps in any body panels, spaces around door handles and headlights, etc will all have residual dip that I can almost guarantee you will not come off without a lot of effort. When I finally pulled the dip off of my car the body panels only took 2 hours to peel. All the crevices and gaps took almost 2 full weekends...never again.

As for the wheels, the brake dust after about 2 months, left brownish staining around the entire lip of my front wheels. I tried several cleaners but the staining wouldn't go away. Eventually I just made it part of my routine to add a light touch up coat to the wheels once a month.

Why? I have Plasti dipped wheels and it is a great protection from road salt and such. It's cheap...easily removable and also can be used to change the wheel color on the cheap to se if you want that color before powder coating. If you spray it right, take your time it comes out great.

100% on the PlastiDip train and I know for a fact it came come out VERY good if you take your time and do it right

I dipped my entire car a couple of years ago and what a nightmare.

I ended up getting a new paint job.

I think it's just a half ass thing to use. It will never touch any painted surface of mine again

So powder coating is a good option? do you know how much would it cost?

It really does vary per shop. It can be anywhere from $40-$80 a wheel around here. But you being another state i would just search listings and look for shops with the best reviews and call in for pricing.

If you have high-Dust track pads, Plasti-Dip is a God-Send! I had Silver Enkei PF01's on my street legal, track prepared STi. I had to clean my rims after every use, (track or a run to the store) what a PITA! Even if your wheels are black, brake pad dust will eventually eat away at your paint finish. But Not with the Plasti dip. Also, if you want to protect your wheels from the winter like we do here in Michigan, its a great way to keep you wheels looking new dispite winter use. Have no fear, Its easy to DIY with aerosol cans from Lowes/Home Depot for $50. Don't pay someone to do it for you, its easy!

I had my stock 18" wheels done "professionally"

It looked cool for a day, then I felt cheap as hell. It lasted about 6 days until peeling in the inner spoke edges started to occur and the finish started looking scratched from just wiping it with a wet cloth. I wound up ordering aftermarket wheels and wish I would have saved the $ and skipped the plasti dipping to begin with. Had it on my emblems too, one car wash with a pressure hose screwed those up

I removed the wheels from the car (rubber on) and Dipped (painted) both front and back of the spoke so there would not be an "edge issue". i also did a good part of the barrel so the spokes and the barrel were both black. Never had an issue with peeling, even after 2 track days all out at Watkins Glenn.
If your looking for a "show" look, Dip is probably not it. I dipped the rear spoiler and roof too.



My son and I dipped his whole tC last spring. It looked really great. Its made it through its first Michigan winter, (although a mild one as far a Michigan winters go). No Peeling, even in a couple of areas we screwed up and half expected peeling.

its crazy the finish you can get with plasti dip out of an HVLP gun now... they have that higher gloss top coat and people put pearl and flake in there... amazes me how some of the cars come out

I plastidipped my winter wheels on the last car I owned. I wouldn't do it for a better appearance, but if you'd like to change things up, or protect through winter.
