Plastic vibration help!

After the dealer installed a new clutch on my car and put back the transmission and shifter, this little annoying plastic piece (reverse lock) now vibrates and rattles. It is by far the most annoying sound my car makes. How can I fix the rattle? It happens both when idling and driving.

Ask the dealer to show you and exploded parts diagram of the shift knob. I'm wondering if there is a plastic or mylar spacer that should be in there but they left it out.

Try some Blue Lockrite, or Install a nut (if space allows) and a lock washer.

I’ll try one of those washers. I currently have the nut. I’m assuming that nut is the adjuster for how high the reverse lock goes up?

Yes. If not tight you'll get the rattle.

The pictoral installation instruction is for the RTR Shift Knob, so adjust accordingly for your knob.

My nut doesn’t go down that far. When I screwed it down as far as it’ll go, the reverse lockout didn’t clear the knub

Try locktite so the knob is "bonded" to the shifter rod thread tight. This will stop the rattle. You need to use Loctite stick, part no 37684, so it won't run down like the liquid one.

The shifter is tight as can be. The plastic that’s apart of the reverse latch is making that noise.

I have this issue, too, but not quite as severe. Mine only occurs at higher RPMs - around 4.5-5K+, I think. Annoying, but if I keep my hand in contact with the lockout, it deadens or eliminates the vibration, however, I'd prefer to have both hands on the wheel at those times... Knob is perfectly tight and stable and installed as many turns down as would still allow the lockout to function.

I have a Steeda shifter and getting their shift knob installed and secure was a bit of a challenge, and the only thought I've had since is that I wish I'd also installed their lockout collar. Maybe it's identical to the OEM piece and I'd have the same issue... or maybe not.

Try putting in the reverse lockout cavity with sponge material, pack it in tight.

I checked my reverse lock sleeve by trying to move side to side in all directions. It does not move. Can you check yours? If it moves, then it must be missing a plastic sleeve bushing or something.

Mine doesn't have any play or wiggle, other than being able to slide up and down. I kind of chalk it up to an OEM collar on an aftermarket stick.
