Ford Racing doesnt list any, take a look on their website... might be a regular ford dealer part. Whatever it is, they are no where to be found online.... so I have no choice but to go 3.55. No way I am going back to stock after pulling this pumpkin all apart.

Try this one

Ya Lethal performance lists that part number also. if you remove the A from the end, you get the wrong gear set that I have now. Ford Racing doesnt list that number with the A at the end though.

So your saying if you try and buy the set in the Steeda link I provided you will get the wrong gears even though they clearly state they are for 2015?

I wonder how Tasca got my gears 4 months ago? Hmmm

I am just saying that Ford Racing doesnt have a 3.31 in their catalog. If you follow the format of the Ford Racing part numbers, the number they list would be it, if it was a valid number, but I assume they are just ordering them from a ford dealer

Ok I see what you are saying but why couldn't you either buy the Steeda link or from Ford yourself? This way you would have the gear set you set out to get.

Ya I will call the ford dealer tomorrow and try and get it. Process had the Ford part numbers for it.

I think I am going to throw in the towel on the Mustang for a while though, its really starting to make my head hurt. Today we finished building the new exhaust manifolds for my 370z, and I think I am going to get back on that car for a while.

The differential bushings have turned out to be the same nightmare as the cradle bushings, only that you only have about 12" to swing the hammer, so its going to take forever. They are totally fused to the cradle. Cut the shell with a sawzall in 3 places through and bend it all in as much as I can and the damn things still wont move. I am beginning to strongly consider letting the car sit on jackstands until I can get the Ford Racing cradle, my patience has pretty much hit its limit on this car for now.

I can only imagine my friend. You are defiantly a go getter and have done an amazing job on your car. I wish you nothing but good luck from here forward.

Maybe some 370z work will refresh your drive to finnish the bushings. Or help you decide to order the FR subframe lol.

Good luck!

Jaime

Thanks. My strongest motivation to get this IRS job over with is so I can drive the car and see if it hooks up any better or not... which will be the deciding factor if the car is going back to stock and getting traded in or not. But if this car cant do anything that my Z cannot, I have no use for it! And I am starting to feel like that might be the way this is looking!

Sweet! Got the diff bushings out. Was just like the cradle, the back 2 were easy... heck they were like 10 min each. The fronts sucked worse but overall less work than the cradle bushings were for me.

Glad that drama is over. Tomorrow after work I will sand and paint the cradle in all the areas it got banged up and then put it back up in the car where it will all wait until the differential ordeal works itself out.

Yeah I wore myself out all in one day doing it all. I have put seven different 12 hour days into this car but I am almost done.

It does tighten up the rear end but you will hear the clunk of the diff a lot more and you will get a slight wine from the diff. Nothing too bad.

So I called steeda to order the 3.31 gears and they said they are not available yet, lol

Looks like getting them isn't going to be easy! Next stop is the ford dealer to try and get them through the parts department

I called ford racing to ask what's up and to see if I could get some specs from them on the super 8.8 since my factory setup had only 2.5in-lb of preload. That seems way too loose and I wanted to know if I should really set mine back up to that.

He told me the most likely reason they don't offer the 3.31 right now could be due to availability because it's the most common factory installed ratio, but he wasn't sure.

He also had no specs for me on setting up the differential, so unfortunately I will have to pry that information from someone who access to the factory service information.

OK then I called Lethal to see if they had it, and they said its on back-order and looking at late August probably. So I am going to make an assumption that they are getting them from other sales channels, and I am going to spare myself a 30 minute phone call to a ford parts department and assume that they cannot get the 3.31 gears right now either, and I am going to just order the damn 3.55 ring and pinion and run that.

edit: OK OK i always say I am going to give up and then I dont. I called a Ford Parts department to check on it, and they also said its on backorder and they said no ETA.

So I have exhausted all options I can come up with... the 3.31 ring and pinion just isnt available right now.

edit 2: 3.55:1 ring and pinion set ordered, will probably have it tomorrow. Not sure if I will be able to get the car back together quick enough to be aligned Friday though.

Yes! I used to take cars there when I worked local to them several years ago.

They are on my short list of people who I will let align my car.

However, just a block away from me a friend's friend has a brand new setup that doesnt even touch the wheels, and I think I am going to try out his new setup.

UPDATE: Bad news is my Ford Racing 3.55 ring and pinion was shipped from the NEVADA warehouse instead of Ohio, meaning that instead of being here today, it wont be here until TUESDAY!!! shit!!! Its OK, I will get the car to the track shortly either way... I will just take a day off work. At least this removes the pressure and I dont have to be such a cry baby while trying to get it done fast.
