Now, what I'm asking may not be easy. It may not even be possible! But, please hear me out :)

Ever since Topnotch (who else!) posted the Kemal Curic's official renderings of S550, I was blown away by it, particularly the front end. To me, it it has several details that improve over the production version and it way on the way to what I'd like to see with the '18MY refresh:

  • Grille is slightly smaller
  • Grille (top and bottom) are highlighted with a strong character line all the way around, so the two grilles appear more as one (much like the '13/'14)
  • Fenders flare out more
  • Headlamps are squarer and don't wrap around nearly as much
  • There's just more "edge" to the whole thing

Now, is it possible to make the sketch appear more photographic.....more real?

Since these are directly from Kemal Curic, there may be a good chance at least a few of these elements will make its way into the refreshes or hi-po models. I like everything about it except the way it curves giving the appearance of a smile.

That said, let me second the request for any photoshopers to give it a whirl.

I think I like the real one better. I know as soon as there is a kit I will be deleting the fog lamps for some brake ducts though...

On a sidenote this photo really highlights something that grinds my gears; I want to take the grill out and have it opened up by someone. I have always HATED when manufacturers give their cars these massive grills and then fill in so much of it with ugly plastic. Lose performance? Possibly, but the cars back in the 60's didn't have that silliness. Unless someone has a really good reason not too, tint and that will probably be the first mods asap.

Does anyone else understand? I feel like I've always been alone about that sorta thing.

I'd also like to see what people do come up with!

A lot of this comes down to the stylistic freedom that illustrations offer. Everything's an exaggerated version of what's already included, like the double-bubble roof and cantrail creases. I really think that front fascia is fap material and wish they retained the single frame grille element, plus the brake ducts are much more traditional whereas the lower lateral corners corners are convoluted on the production version; a bit too convoluted and pinched imo.

This render was posted on the forum a long time ago. Is this what you're looking for? :)

That's a great mid-point between the two. I'd still like to see the headlamps more rectangular and less wrap-around, and I think the slightly smaller grille would enable this. But it does look great and love that they accentuated the character lines like the rendering does :)

While I understand your dislike of the closed grill, it is obviously that way for a functional reason. Opening it up undoubtedly has implications for the aerodynamics, cooling, function of the hood vents, etc.

Just because cars in the 60s didn't have that 'silliness' doesn't mean it's not necessary or functionally beneficial now.

I'm certainly not saying it can't be changed. Just suggesting that it's important to understand the implications of a change before making it.

I'm a graphic designer and this can be done, but it would take at least 3-4+ hours do a decent job, and honestly unless someone has the free time its highly unlikely someone will fulfill your request. (Unless of course you paid them, lol)

The "Classic" look and styling direction always comes first in modern Mustang history. I was very surprised the S550's "Classic" phase was so aggressive... Especially considering the '94 and '05's styling.

Some may remember the out of place EVOS sketch I religiously referred to prior to release. The sketch is right in line with the pencils above.

I personally feel the transition would have been too drastic however, I love the direction.

While watching the AutoX GT video, as the '15 powerslides in the distance, it looked almost identical to a '67-'68 in action. I'm glad we didn't miss out on this initial "classic" design. I'm really happy it went semi-exotic and as aggressive as it did right from the start...

...the sketches I referred to above seem to be the only logical direction from here.

The only question I have now pertains to the height of the bumper support. I think Ford will continue to lower the front bumper support to the ground, making the upper grill larger overall. The lower grill would become more slit-like like the EVOS sketch posted before.

The headlamps will no doubt become more slit-like as well.

Very fun thread...as much as I do like Mustangs and the S550 overall, I really do think it's just too "soft". Jay Mays is on record as saying that one of the goals was to make the design less aggressive and a little more reserved due to the European market...more or less citing the Alegro Concept and original Mustang two seater as inspiration, taking the smoother and more rounded look of both cars and applying the theme to the S550.

...the sketch from Curic, and the rendering up above are EXACTLY what I would have wanted to see from this car. I think Curic had a knockout design with amazing lines, but Ford kind of messed with his ideas a bit and softened the overall product from what he may have intended. His finalized sketches below are also much more angular and aggressive, with longer lines and more muscular looks. I really wish that we would have gotten something more along the lines of this...it's jus a bigger/better/bolder version of the final product when you really look at it:

I agree entirely...I feel like the first refresh will move the car closer to the red and gray sketches from Curic, and then the final form of the car after that will mirror something closer to that EVOS sketch that you're referring to. I almost guarantee that Ford will have to make the next version of this car more aggressive.

Nice effort, thanks Chris!

One of the things I really dislike are the amber side markers in the headlamp (and why I love the p/shops you do where you grey them out). I'd have preferred a subtle one in the bumper, like the '14, but I guess it would have been too busy, what with the separate turn signals.

That's why, for the refresh, I'd like to see integrated turn signals in the headlamp itself. It's already been suggested the 3 LED DRL gills could be setup to work as turn signals, and I think that would be a great look, meaning a subtle side marker could be added to the bumper.

:)

yup...ditch the Porsche-signals and use the gills. I think those turn signals are a bit polarizing and kind of out of place on this car.
