Any chance you could post a picture or two of how you have them positioned? I'm in the market for a dash cam or two and would be very interested in seeing how your's are mounted.
Under the Rear View Mirror, and other top of the rear window. They have been professionally installed so the wire is tied directly to the batter with a power drain prevention device. Car is locked away for the winter, with a cover currently, will take picture when I decide to take it out for a drive (when the weather is above freezing)

No it is not "just the way of things". Door dings and scratches DO NOT have to have if people pay attention to what they're doing. And if somebody does damage your vehicle, do the right thing...leave note on the windshield with info and offer to fix it. This is an INTEGRITY issue...plain and simple. DO the right thing thing...that's all it boils down to. And it doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is...it could be POS, but you don't know how hard that person had to work to achieve the financial ability to purchase that vehicle. I busted my ass for 24 years in the military to get to where I am today and have the ability to buy my Mustang...its a base model, but I put a HIGH degree of value on it, due to what it took for me to get it. So, if that happened to my Stang...fuck'n right I'm going to be pissed!! Now a rock in the windshield going down the highway...yeah, that's just shitty luck. I gotta say...that's a fucked up way to think man.
Try to ignore jimmy he always says weird and off the wall stuff in threads to get a rise off of someone

I was going to say same thing sort of, without being such a #@$% about it. Personally I would just get over it. My car is black a year old and at this point I have 5-6 scratches and scuffs. People are sorry ass @#$%^#'s that don't care about anyone's things. By the time you go through all hassle to fix that scratch you will have another. I say just drive it.
He'll get over it. But why not fix it? That's part of maintaining the car. I understand that it is only cosmetic, but still. Life is full of maintaining things that will need it again and again. But we do it... and there are some that don't.

That's why I park at the other end of the parking lot usually the furthest from any entrance. It irks my wife esp during Canadian winters.

I don't think its completely carelessness as the title suggests. I think jealousy plays a big part too... that is truly sad.
From the looks of it, it is the entitlement mindset that has people damaging property because "why should you have such a nice car and i have to drive a chevy?"

its not paranoia, it happens. a lot. :paddle:

Dash cam for incidents that happen while driving isn't a bad idea. This would help out when you get into the "he said, she said" arguments after an accident. When I was young someone hit me at an intersection (their fault) and they were able to convince the police it was my fault. Footage would have helped out my case in that situation. As for parking lot bumps and bruises... not sure it would be overly helpful. You might get a glimpse of the culprit, but you won't always get their plates. And if they exit the view of the camera and shortly thereafter a car passes the camera, it would be hard to prove it was the same person. So unless you know them by sight, not much will come of it.
Thats the whole idea. Cover your ass. I've gotten into three non-fault accidents, and you would not believe how they will lie to the cops to save their ass. Good thing I like to introduce the dash cam evidence after they stated I was at fault, and watch them squirm.

The issue is people DONT care. They wouldn't care about your car if you had the Medal of Honor hanging on the rear view. So in a way he is right. He's not saying he goes around hitting peoples cars. He is right however, these things happen.

If people actually did the right thing then we wouldn't have 23 "Judge" shows on TV. I'm no fan of NY but im sure Louisiana has their share of these #$%^$# that don't care about anyone but themselves.

I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law. Chances are, the people who go to the extreme to preserve a box of steel from anything and everything will suffer the most over the long term.

I had a similar mindset with my old car...park far away from everyone else, look for the islands...blah blah blah...until the day when parking further away resulted in the car being keyed end to end on both sides. It probably wouldn't have happened if I had parked in the more populated area of the street and a few door dings would have been much cheaper to fix compared to painting both sides of the car.

At this point, I don't care about 1st world issues such as 'door dings'. About a year ago a teenage girl hit my mirror (hard) with the door of her parent's SUV. I walked over, looked at it, didn't see a thing and didn't even bring up the issue. Around the same time a guy with a Cayenne was parallel parking in front of me and bumped into my car making contact with the license plate frame. Walked over, looked at my car, looked at his car, no damage, move on. I am sure there was some microscopic damage from either of the incidents but at no point did I consider getting fired up let alone calling the police.

He didn't say he goes around hitting other people's cars and I didn't say he does either. If you took the time to read his post, he says dings: "they're not a big deal" and I say they are. It's a total lack of consideration for other people's vehicles. And yes there our share of #$%^$# here in LA...and I was one of them. About 2 years a go I was pulling into Kroger Grocery store parking lot & and grazed the bumper of a Nissan Frontier with my F-150. I took down the license plate #, went into the store and the customer service clerk call the vehicle info over the intercom. The guy came up, I told him what happened & offered to pay for the fix. He said: "there's a couple other scuffs on that bumper & I'm not worried about it." He then shook my hand & thanked me for being honest. I know that's not how it works out there in the majority of this country...but that kind of thinking is exactly the reason why it is!!

Never mind, I read your post. My reply went over your head. I'm glad you do the right thing. I do as well, now if you can get about 260 million others to follow suit we would all be good to go.

And if somebody, say, hit-and-ran your car and knocked off the back bumper, or smashed the rear quarterpanel, I could totally get behind getting angry about it.

But, like... It's a scuff. It's not a huge deal. Every car I ever owned has had a patina of dings and dents and scratches on it from just being a car that gets driven on streets and parallel parked and parked in lots and garages where there's not enough room to open your door without hitting the car next to you. I try to be super-duper careful about such things -- if I know my car door is going to hit the car next to me when I open it in a garage, I keep a towel on my front seat so I can put it between the edge of my door and the side of their car. But if somebody isn't quite so careful, it's really a matter of no harm, no foul. Even a few months ago when somebody knocked off my side mirror, it was more a matter of "eh, this type of thing just happens when you park on the street."

I mean... try parallel parking in NYC, where the accepted norm is that people will pull into spots by tapping the cars in front of and behind them to know when they've gone as far as they can to fit in the spot, and then tell me how evil people are for leaving minor dings on your car.

Um... There's a reason why every single car I see has one of these on the back:

And a lot of them have these on the front:

And a lot of others have these:

It's because dings just happen. They're a fact of life. Nobody really pays attention to them.

It prevents getting too many dings and scratches. After having had my S197 for four years, the paint on the back bumper was almost entirely scratched / chipped off -- good thing it was Kona; the black plastic sort of blended in with it.
