Look, I get it and don't disagree. But, those are completely false equals and don't in anyway mean the OP should not care about the scratches on his car. You're examples are sad/horrible/bad and I'm sorry those have happened. However, there's a lot of really, really bad shit in this world and it doesn't negate the "lesser bad shit" just because of it.

Using your own examples, did your best friend live? Maybe she shouldn't be upset it happened then, because she lived and your brother didn't. It's harsh, but using your logic it works. I don't agree with it (obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this), but the reality is there are almost always worse things that have happened in this crazy, messed up world to someone else.

Using your or other's pain is a common tactic to win an argument like this (and I've seen it far more than once), but they aren't fair comparisons. I am truly sorry you and your friends had those horrible experiences, but they don't trump the OPs separate experience. They are not equal and are completely different in all ways. While offering you a different perspective on life, it doesn't mean the OP can't also be upset.

Feel free to call me an asshole for saying it, but it's true.
For what it's worth, none of my comments were addressed to the OP, nor did I suggest that *he* (or she) didn't have a good reason to be upset. My comments were addressed to (and quoted) the people who were piling on the commenter who pointed out that at the end of the day, we are talking about cosmetic damage to a car. My comments were specifically addressed to the person who suggested that it would be ok to "beat the shit out of the hillbilly truck" of that person, "since it is just a car".

There is a big difference between false equivalency and perspective. Those examples that I provided give *me* perspective in *my* life.

She died, by the way.

When I bought my previous Mustang, I was gifted a ding the size of a quarter in my driver's door when the car was 6 days old (while parked "safely" away from everyone else in a restaurant parking lot). I grumbled for a few minutes like anyone else would, got in, and drove it home. I drove it for 9 years after that, 190,000 miles - and sold it with that same ding in the door. It just didn't end up mattering to me all that much, and didn't seem to affect the value of the car.

Now I have a 2015, and I like it a lot. Last week I drove it 800 miles in 2 days for my work. The trip involved 3 mountain passes, snow, sleet, rain, etc. I came home with a rock chip on my hood and 2 on my driver's side front wheel. I would prefer that those things hadn't happened, and I will probably fix them. But I have far more important (in my opinion) things to worry about than whether my car remains perfect.

But that's just me

I don't disagree, in fact I 100% agree. I only take issue when you say this:

I guess I just have a different perspective. I have seen so much real pain in my life that I can't get my panties twisted tight enough about a *thing* to throw an internet hissy fit because it got scratched.
While stating your reasons/perspective you did directly (indirectly?) address the OP. And, I'm sorry about your friend.

Let me start this off by saying sorry about your brother and friend!!!

Second, when quoting something someone says, quote it correctly, dont change it to make it sound worse. I get it you dont think my comment was called for, I do. Just a difference in opinion. Yes, it is just a car, a hunk of metal. In the grand scheme of things its a small thing. Most of us on here will take care of this car like it is our baby, because it is. We all have bad life experiences, Im not going to get in a pissing contest about who has had worse moments. No body is saying tho that those moments are trumped by a car that has scratches on it. The OP posted something, another poster made a stupid (IMHO) comment, specially on a Mustang forum. I made a comment to him asking him a question, if he doesnt like it maybe he shouldnt be an asshole in the first place.

If my comments offended you I truly apologize...

Ok, poorly stated. That comment was really intended for the

"I only take my Mustang ('cause it's a $40,000 car!) out of its hermetically sealed chamber ('cause it's a $40,000 car!) on the 5th Tuesday of months that end in the letter "y" ('cause it's a $40,000 car!) so that I can gently wash it in distilled unicorn tears, carefully filtered through fairy wings ('cause it's a $40,000 car!) before returning it safely before anyone who might wear shoes or clothes - or breathe unfiltered oxygen asks for a ride.... 'cause it's a $40,000 car, you know!"

group, who act like there is something more special about this car, just because it happens to be the one that *they* chose to buy.

And I do regret hijacking the thread.

That doesn't look like a shopping cart (alone) did that damage. It looks like another car's bumper rubbed yours in the process of parking next to your car, or leaving the parking spot beside yours. Meguiar's Scratch-X compound may take that out. Bummer you were rubbed the wrong way. I feel your pain, but as I said, it looks like more than just a shopping cart is to blame. A stupid, reckless driver is more likely the culprit...

I have a Blackvue 2 camera dash cam. One in the front and one in the back. It has a parking mode, which records while the car is parked (Detects motion). In this situation, you could probably record the actual incident and see who was responsible for the damage to your car. And most likely you'll be able to see the plates of the persons responsible since they should be close to your car. In this situation you would show the recording to the police and they would contact the persons responsible and have them pay for the damages.

EDIT: This looks like someone hit your car with their car. Does not look like a shopping cart could cause those scratches. In this case, the camera would definitely capture the plates as they drove away.

I went to Wal-mart at 2am and parked the stang a good distance from the entrance so there was plenty of "better" spots for people to park. 20 min later I exit the store and my car is almost surrounded with other cars. lol

As I walked up to my car a pickup truck pulls into the spot in front of my car on the driver's side, then it looked like the driver noticed the new mustang and pulled up another spot so he was directly on my driver's side (his truck was now facing the wrong way in the parking space). I hit the button on the remote to pop the trunk so I could unload my cart and he acted scared to get out his truck and didn't want to make eye contact with me. I wasn't even pissed, but he was acting like he just got caught being a dick by parking right up against my car when there was plenty of available parking spots. He didn't get out of his truck until I pulled out the way out of the parking lot.

I am glad most of you share my pain. I showed this to a few of my friends and got "who cares its not to noticeable". They say that because they never had a nice car they cared about.. I ignored EricinSC's comment because he is in the minority or he's just a troll either one I don't care. I paid 40 grand for this car and I want to take care of it and yes Im going to be mad if someone else puts a scratch on my car because of their carelessness when I go out of my way to protect it. This is just a car and these are 1st world problems. I Posted this to share my experience and get advice on how to fix it. I'm not going to cry my self to sleep over this but I think it's reasonable to be a little upset over this.

Go see a Professional detailer
This seems like the best route. Does anybody have a good estimate of how much this would cost to get fix. I just don't want to do more damage since I have limited experience fixing these types of scratches. Just to get back on topic

Depends on how good you want the fix to be. I have a similar scratch on my current car, and at the time, I took it to a few body shops. To fix it "properly", they recommend just entirely replacing the panels. In your case, the entire rear bumper. Easily would cost me over $800 with labour. Yours would be more, I imagine, given the car. But then I also took it to other detailers, offering to fix it for less than $400 by filling in the scratches and re-painting that portion. These are all Canadian prices, by the way.

So your mileage will vary. Really depends on how far you wanna go in fixing it.

To be honest with you, if I were you, based on that picture, I would just spend the extra few hundred and replace the panel entirely. No matter how good a detailer is, it won't be as good as new. Replacing the panel will make it as good as new, no question about it.

This is my worst nightmare, I have been lucky so far in my 14, hopefully that will pass on to my new baby. I always park in the far back of a parking lot no matter what, I feel you pain OP, you are not alone!

Some people just don't care these days, never know if you will get a dent, ding, scratch or be a a victim of a hit and run.

Any chance you could post a picture or two of how you have them positioned? I'm in the market for a dash cam or two and would be very interested in seeing how your's are mounted.

It's just a car... If your that upset call your insurance company, file a claim and have it repaired. I'd rather be careless than be so superficial as to cry about a scratch on a car that is still mechanically flawless.
This isn't some beat to shit old F150, it's a brand new 40k car. Fuck off.

Yeah, no shopping cart did that...some dumbass window licker clipped you with their vehicle. You can buff on that with rubbing compound all day long...I don't think it'll come out, going to need to be repainted. As far as scratches go....if you take your fingernail & drag it across it & it grabs or pulls on your fingernail...it can't be buffed out.
